LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Two unscrupulous men have been arrested for vandalising Airtel Malawi’s fiber network infrastructure.
One of two therefore is already serving a 30-month jail term after being convicted for the crime.
This comes barely months after Airtel Malawi alerted the public on its fiber vandals that be reported to Malawi Police Service for action.
Consequently, Kanengo Police Station in Lilongwe also arrested another suspect who is answering charges related to the vandalism of fiber cables.
Airtel Malawi’s Network Director, Mphatso Manda told news conference on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 that the arrests demonstrate strong collaboration between the company and surrounding communities.
Manda further appealed communities to remain alert and report any cases of vandalism, stressing that protecting network infrastructure is vital to national development.
“Vandalism of the fiber network has disrupted service coverage in some areas. Let’s tame the malpractice together for better network coverage,” assures Manda.
Echoing the same, Kanengo Police Station Publicist Gresham Ngwira reaffirmed the police’s commitment to working with stakeholders to safeguard property.
Ngwira therefore called on the public to report any suspicious activities.
