Ester Jolobala goes unopposed as Malawi Parliament Second Deputy Speaker

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-United Democratic Front (UDF)Member of Parliament for Machinga East, Ester Jolobala, has been elected as the Second Deputy Speaker of the Malawi Parliament after going unopposed in Wednesday’s parliamentary election.

Jolobala’s unopposed victory came after the withdrawal of the other two contestants Malijani and Bongwe clearing the path for her automatic appointment to the position.

The development follows the election of Victor Musowa as First Deputy Speaker, replacing Madalitso Kazombo earlier in the day.

With Jolobala’s election, the leadership structure of Parliament is now fully constituted, ensuring the smooth continuation of legislative business.

In her remarks following the announcement, Jolobala expressed gratitude to fellow Members of Parliament for their confidence in her leadership.

She pledged to serve with impartiality, integrity, and dedication in supporting the Speaker and her deputies in managing the affairs of the House.

“I am humbled by the trust my fellow parliamentarians have placed in me. I will strive to promote fairness, inclusiveness, and respect for all members as we work together for the development of our nation,” said Jolobala

Jolobala, a seasoned legislator known for her strong advocacy on women’s rights and rural development, becomes one of the few female leaders to hold a top parliamentary position in Malawi.

Her election has been widely welcomed across the political divide, with many MPs commending her experience and commitment to public service
