Pheu Thai has questioned the government’s high-level reshuffling of more than 100 civil servants since taking office, suggesting the moves may be politically motivated ahead of future elections.

Pheu Thai spokesman Suksit Srichomkwan said on Saturday that within one month of the government taking power, 89 senior civil servants had been transferred.

After just over two months, the number had risen to 122 positions, he said, adding he expected about 300 positions to be reshuffled by the end of the month.

The reshuffle has occurred mostly within the Interior Ministry, where 49 positions have changed hands, followed by 13 positions at the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry and 12 at the Office of the Prime Minister, Mr Suksit said.

He noted that several positions were linked to major legal cases, such as the Khao Kradong land case, and questioned why the secretary-general of the Office of National Water Resources had been abruptly replaced despite widespread flooding nationwide.

He also raised concerns about the sudden reshuffle at the Lands Office in Buri Ram, which took place only six days after the appointment of the Lands Department’s director-general on Nov 12.

The party also criticised the transfer of the Lands Department director-general only six days after his appointment, saying it triggered a wave of additional changes in Buri Ram.

Pheu Thai urged the public to closely monitor whether the transfers comply with legal procedures. Mr Suksit said civil-service reshuffles are often tied to budget allocations.

The party questioned whether these transfers were intended to secure political advantage ahead of the next election, especially after the prime minister hinted at a possible House dissolution.

Mr Suksit added Pheu Thai is prepared for the next poll, having appointed veteran politician Chaturon Chaisang as head of strategy and launching candidates in more than 250 constituencies, with more major announcements to follow.
