‘Happy’s Place’ Cast Wants Kevin Costner to Play Reba McEntire’s Dead Dad

The Happy’s Place cast is dreaming big when it comes to season 2 guest stars — starting with Kevin Costner.

During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Reba McEntire, Belissa Escobedo, Melissa Peterman, Pablo Castelblanco, Rex Linn and Tokala Black Elk teased what to expect from the new season including the scenarios they are pitching to the writers.

“We have a dream of seeing flashbacks to Happy,” Castelblanco said about Bobbie (McEntire) and Isabella’s (Escobedo) late father. “Belissa really wants Kevin Costner.”

Peterman, 54, cosigned the idea of Costner joining the NBC sitcom. “I also would love a flashback scene, specifically a flashback of the day showing each and everyone’s job interview,” she teased. “That could be really fun. Do we ever really want to see Happy? I would love to.”

Which ‘Reba’ Sitcom Alums Have Appeared on Reba McEntire’s ‘Happy’s Place’?

Happy’s Place, which premiered in October 22024, follows Bobbie as she inherits her father’s restaurant and discovers a new business partner in the long-lost half-sister (Belissa Escobedo) she didn’t know she had. The rest of Happy’s Place is made up of bartender Gabby (Peterman), cook Emmett (Linn), accountant Steve (Castelblanco) and waiter Takoda (Black Elk).

Two seasons in, Happy’s Place has been able to stage some memorable Reba reunions for McEntire and Peterman including Steve Howey, Christopher Rich and JoAnna Garcia Swisher. But the cast is hoping to get even more familiar faces in the future.

“My dear friend John Lithgow would love to do it. He’s now doing the Harry Potter show on HBO so he’s in London for another year. I’m also trying to get my good friend Jean Smart to come over,” Linn, 68, told Us. “She’s on the studio lot just right across the way here. I’d love to see those two but I have about 30 friends that want to come on the show. We’re trying to get some of them.”

Linn and Black Elk, 41, also threw in Peyton Manning as a suggestion while Castelblanco pitched Sofia Vergara and John Leguizamo as Steve’s parents. McEntire, 70, and Escobedo, 27, meanwhile, are just excited for viewers to see how much Happy’s Place has evolved.

“It is a great place to be. We know our audience, we know each other better and we’ve gelled. We didn’t have that big of a break between the first season ending and second season beginning so we just fell right back into it,” McEntire teased. “We’re bonding a lot more. All six of us are very confident and very comfortable with each other — to a point that when we do have a guest cast, we feel very comfortable sharing the stage.”

Which ‘Reba’ Sitcom Alums Haven’t Appeared on NBC’s ‘Happy’s Place’ Yet?

Escobedo said the connection can be felt on the show.

“As we get more comfortable and more bonded, we see it in the characters as well,” she added. “Because we’re getting comfortable with our own characters and so each personality gets a little deeper. You get more into that person.”

She continued: “That’s what I’m so excited for everyone to see is how much the relationship between everyone has progressed into even more of an ensemble. It’s just so funny.”

McEntire teased to Us that the stories in season 2 are even bigger and better, adding, “We’ve progressed and we’ve grown together. We’re a tight knit family — although [Belissa and I] ARE the only ones that are blood related on the show. But it feels like we’re kids that have been adopted into one big family called Happy’s Place.”

Happy’s Place returns to NBC on Friday, November 7, at 8 p.m. ET before streaming the next day on Peacock.

2025 Chipiku Premier League: Extreme thrash Mbabzi

…..Extreme 3-0 Mbabzi

By Edwin Mbewe

MCHINJI-(MaraviPost)-Extreme Football Club on Sunday registered an emphatic 3-0 victory over Mbabzi United at Owen Malijani ground in Mchinji in their opening game of the second round.

In a fascinating match played under scorching weather in Traditional Authority Mavwere, both sides started on a high note, pressing in search of early goals.

The home side drew first blood in the 41st minute through Sly Antonie. After this goal, Extreme pushed for more but were denied by Mbabzi’s defense, and the match ended 1-0 at halftime.

While Mbabzi hoped to equalize early in the second half, Extreme had other plans as Gregory Mwase stretched the home lead just 10 minutes after the restart.

Mbabzi continued to struggle containing the home side, especially in midfield, with attacker Sly Antonie terrorizing the visitors’ defense with his magical moves into the box.

In the 87th minute, Antonie completed his brace after catching the defense napping and slotting the ball into the net to make it 3-0. Shortly after, the final whistle confirmed Extreme’s first win of the second round.

The victory took Extreme’s tally to 35 points, reducing the gap to three points behind leaders Blue Eagles Reserve, who have 38 points from 16 games, as they continue to pressure the Area 30-based side for the championship.

Mbabzi remain in 8th position with 19 points from 16 games, having won 5, drawn 4, and lost 7.

Extreme FC head coach Trust Nyirenda praised his players for their fighting spirit and victory.

“The boys gave their all in today’s match, hence the victory. It was a tough game since Mbabzi are also a good side, but we capitalized on their mistakes. We played them in the first round and took note of their weaknesses.

“We are fighting to qualify for the National Division League next season. We believe we will make it as we have rectified the challenges that led to our relegation from the elite league,” Nyirenda said.

Mbabzi United General Secretary Vincent Malizani expressed concerns over the team’s continued poor run but downplayed fears of relegation from the league they have competed in for decades.

“We recruited very youthful players as per recommendations from the CRFA, hence it took us time to gel. But other teams still used older players, and this affected our ability to produce consistent results, though we are able to win some games.

“The other factor is officiating, especially in away games, as decisions seem to favour home sides. But we will improve and avoid relegation from the league,” said Malizani.

Mbabzi United play their second game on Wednesday at home against Pyramid FC.

Extreme FC were relegated from the TNM Super League in the 2023 season and are fighting to return through the NBS Bank National Division League next season.

The K25 million Chipiku Stores Premier League second round produced 13 goals from five games.

In other Sunday results, Chisomo Academy lost 1-2 at home against TN Stars, with Chifundo Ngochela scoring for the hosts while Noah Malizwe and Joseph Kasewetha found the net for TN Stars.

Speaker Suleman urges legislators to show commitment in parliamentary committees

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Speaker of Parliament Sameer Gaffar Suleman, has called on Members of Parliament (MPs) to work diligently in parliamentary committees, emphasizing that these committees are the engine rooms of Parliament.

Suleman made the call during the opening of a two-day orientation for MPs on parliamentary committees in Lilongwe.

The Speaker stressed that committees play a crucial role in transforming Parliament into a functioning system of checks and balances.

“We are here to work, and work begins in the committees. Expect that I will expect you to work. I will need regular reports from the committees, I will ask for programmes because I will rely on these committees to work effectively,” Suleman said.

He emphasized the importance of MPs questioning, probing, and demanding accountability on behalf of the people who elected them.

The orientation aims to introduce MPs to best practices on gender-responsive budgeting and budget analysis, crucial for committee work.

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Representative Chika-Charles Aniekwe noted that the orientation is timely, as it will equip MPs with the necessary skills to effectively carry out their committee duties.

MPs are expected to resume sitting on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., following the opening of the First Meeting in the 52nd Session of Parliament by President Arthur Peter Mutharika last week.

South Africa stun USA, march into round of 16 with confidence

South Africa’s Under-20 national football team produced one of the biggest shocks at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Chile after defeating the United States 2-1 on Sunday.

The victory saw the young Amajita book their place in the Round of 16, where they will face Colombia on Wednesday.

It was a spirited performance from coach Raymond Mdaka’s charges, who showed remarkable composure and tactical discipline throughout the encounter.

The South Africans took the lead in the 28th minute through striker Thabiso Mokoena, who pounced on a defensive error to slot home past the American goalkeeper.

The USA responded early in the second half with a well-taken goal by midfielder Ethan Williams, leveling the match at 1-1.

However, South Africa refused to be intimidated, continuing to press forward with confidence and determination. Their persistence paid off in the 78th minute when captain Sipho Dlamini rose highest to head in a corner, restoring South Africa’s lead.

The closing minutes were tense as the USA pushed for an equalizer, but the South African defense, marshaled by the impressive Luvuyo Mthethwa, stood firm to secure the historic win.

Speaking after the match, coach Mdaka praised his players for their resilience and fighting spirit.

“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but the boys showed great character. Beating a strong team like the United States gives us confidence. We’ll keep the same energy and determination when we face Colombia,” said Mdaka.

He added that the team’s focus now shifts to recovery and preparation for the knockout stage.

“We must stay grounded. The job is not done yet. Colombia are a tough side, but we believe in our system and in our players,” he added.

The win sparked celebrations among South African fans both at the stadium and back home, as it marks the first time in several years that the Amajita have advanced past the group stage of the tournament.

South Africa will now face Colombia on Wednesday evening in Santiago, hoping to continue their dream run and make further history at the global stage.

Suspected MCP regime’ panga-wielding thugs face five counts, remain in custody

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Fourteen suspected Malawi Congress Party (MCP) regime’s notorious panga-wielding gang on Monday, November 3, 2025 appeared brought before Lilongwe court.

However, eleven of them have been charged with five serious counts connected to a wave of violent attacks that shocked Lilongwe earlier this year.

According to the court document, the suspects are being accused of torching a Toyota Quantum, registration number RU 7197, on May 11, 2025 — an allegation they have all denied.

In the second count, they are alleged to have attacked Alex Wali with a knife, an act they also denied.

The third count relates to the destruction of a Nissan Hardbody, registration number PE 84, with damages estimated at MK550,000.

But all the eleven suspects denied responsibility.

The fourth and fifth counts involve alleged unlawful assaults on Felix Nazigamba and George Mataya, respectively — charges the accused have again denied.

The state has identified ten witnesses in the case but none of them was present in court today.

Prosecutors have requested that the matter be adjourned to another date to allow time for witnesses to appear and for additional evidence to be presented.

Defense lawyer Khwima Mchizi argued that the accused should not remain in custody, saying they have strong family ties and pose no flight risk.

As the court deliberates on whether to grant bail or adjourn the case, all eyes remain on the highly charged trial that has captured national attention — a case that speaks to the broader concern over rising urban violence and gang activity in Malawi.
