BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has declared that the “honeymoon of plundering government resources is over,” signalling a new era of accountability in Malawi.
He emphasised that his administration under the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is determined to restore integrity and efficiency in public service.
Delivering his inaugural address at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Saturday, Prof. Mutharika said that holding public office should never be an opportunity for personal enrichment or favoritism.
“Malawi belongs to all of us, regardless of political, cultural, or religious background,” he cautioned.
He added, “So, if anyone acts to the contrary, I will go after him or her. Never say I never warned you.”
The President acknowledged that the country is facing multiple challenges, including shortages of foreign exchange and food.
He called on Malawians to embrace patience, discipline, and hard work to rebuild the nation.
Prof. Mutharika pledged that the DPP-led government would embark on a transformative agenda aimed at national recovery and progress.
He also extended an invitation to international investors, assuring them of a conducive environment for business and investment to uplift the living standards of Malawians.
Earlier in the ceremony, Vice President Justice Dr. Jane Ansah hailed Prof. Mutharika as a visionary and committed leader.
She praised his dedication to unity, peace, and prosperity, highlighting his focus on inclusive governance.
Dr. Ansah expressed gratitude to God for granting the nation another opportunity to benefit from Prof. Mutharika’s leadership.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including former Malawian Presidents Dr. Joyce Banda and Dr. Bakili Muluzi.
Regional leaders also graced the event, among them President Daniel Chapo of Mozambique and President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe.
Tanzania’s Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, along with ministers from Angola, Namibia, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, were also present.
The presence of these national and international figures underscored the significance of the occasion as a milestone for Malawi’s democracy and governance.
It was a busy September for many celebrities who were running from show to show at New York Fashion Week. Mindy Kaling enjoyed this year’s festivities, which included a stop at the Tory Burch show where she wore a fall-forward brown dress, matching coat and a suede bag that we could see ourselves carrying. Assuming it’s a Tory Burch accessory, it’s fair to assume it costs at least three digits. So, we looked for a more sensible option and found it in this faux suede tote bag on Amazon.
As seen in Kaling’s Instagram post, her chocolate brown suede bag has a shoulder strap and gold hardware. Its size leans large, so we bet it’s great for everyday essentials and then some. But if you don’t have a Hollywood budget, no worries! This style twin looks just as expensive.

Real suede is expensive, so this faux option on Amazon is much more affordable without skimping on style. It has two shoulder straps that makes way for a snap closure. Our favorite detail (that Kaling’s doesn’t have) is that fabric that’s woven through the top of the bag to create a slouchy yet structured style. That’s where you’ll find the gold-like hardware that looks like the more expensive version.
To get the Kaling look, opt for the brown, green or coffee shades, though we’re also tempted by the beige and burgundy hues. We love how the actress styled her bag with a monochromatic look, but as a neutral, this purse can be worn with all the cozy sweaters in your closet.
As one happy Amazon shopper pointed out, this bag isn’t deep, but it’s wide. That’s a positive in our book, because it’s easy to lose things in a depth-heavy bag. If it’s wide, though, it’s easier to see more of your items at once. Convince yet? Because we are!

The Dancing with the Stars alum, 41, touched on her divorce during the Thursday, October 2 episode of the “I Do, Part 2” podcast.
While discussing celebrity divorces alongside Jen Fessler, Burke admitted her own divorce “tested” her.
However, she pointed out that her marriage breakdown wasn’t the only big change she went through that year – she also exited DWTSafter working as a pro dancer on the show for 26 seasons. In addition, she moved out of her home that she had lived in for over a decade.
“It wasn’t just the divorce with my ex. It was the divorce with Dancing with the Stars all in one year, and then leaving my home I lived in for sixteen years and I moved to where I am today,” Burke explained. “So it’s like, it’s just, it was all happening in one year, and those are three big life changes. They say, if you hit five in one year, you’re most likely going to check into the nearest mental institution.”
While Burke insisted that she has no regrets about how her divorce went down with Lawrence, 45, she confessed she still feels grief over it occasionally.
“To say that I haven’t or still sometimes grieve would be a lie too. I think it can be both, you know?” she said. “I know that I needed to cut off basically both divorces in order for me to be able to see what I see in the mirror and actually like the person I see.”

She went on to say while the changes appeared to happen really quickly, they were a long time coming.
“I think that though it happened quickly, this was not just quick decisions. This was stuff lingering inside of me for many, many years,” she explained.
During the podcast episode, Burke confirmed she and the Mrs Doubtfire actor had signed a prenup before tying the knot in 2019 – a topic she’s previously discussed.
Burke shared on the same podcast in October 2024 that she asked Lawrence for a prenup before tying the knot.
“It was an ultimatum. It was a full-on ultimatum,” she said. “It consisted of, like, 70 to 85 pages of lots of words and lots of fine detail and fine print. But something that my attorney suggested was to make sure I hire him an attorney as well. So that was definitely part of the deal.”
The dancer ultimately refused to get married without an agreement in place.
“It raised a lot of concerns, especially on his behalf. But there was really not much to do,” she noted. “Either we do this and we get married or we don’t. It’s pretty black and white.”
Burke and Lawrence were first romantically linked in 2007 before calling it quits a year later. They rekindled the romance in 2017 and went through with their wedding two years later. Burke filed for divorce from Lawrence in 2022. Since their split, Lawrence has moved on with TLC singer, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas.

The Rainmaker keeps introducing twists and turns — and fans can expect the same level of surprise in the upcoming finale.
During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Lana Parrilla teased that the USA Network show is just getting started. “Every character has a story arc,” she told Us. “So it does leave us with an open-ended as to like, ‘Oh my God, what’s going to happen with these people, their dynamic and their relationship?’”
“You end up really gravitating to all these characters, their stories and their relationships to one another. There’s so many more seasons and stories that we can tell,” she shared. “It is suspenseful and it’s a legal thriller.”
Ahead of season 2, The Rainmaker will introduce “some beautiful cliffhangers” at the end of each episode. “Our season wrap up is pretty stimulating,” Parrilla added. “I will say, it is very suspenseful and exciting. It definitely sets up for the future.”
Based on John Grisham‘s 1995 novel of the same name, The Rainmaker follows young lawyer Rudy (Milo Callaghan), who is fired from his prestigious white-collar firm and signs on with small-time ambulance chaser Bruiser. Rudy subsequently faces off against his former boss in court. The book was adapted into a movie by Francis Ford Coppola in 1997 starring Mickey Rourke and Matt Damon.

USA Network’s version of The Rainmaker features several changes from the book and movie — including gender-swapping Parrilla’s character.
“I think Bruiser is a great character to gender swap for so many reasons. One, she’s much more powerful as a woman. The reason being that Bruiser — in the novel — is super, super shady and questionable,” she told Us. “In the movie version, Mickey Rourke portrays Bruiser, and that character is present in the beginning, but then goes on vacation and escapes to the Caribbean.”
“Rudy has multiple maternal figures [on the show], but Bruiser is the one who comes from a place of tough love. She’s like his coach and his mentor, who’s really pushing him to think outside of the box,” she noted. “She really has this great relationship with Rudy that I don’t think this character would have if Bruiser was male. It just would’ve been a battle of egos.”
Parrilla continued: “I feel like she’s much more effective as a woman and her influence with Rudy — but also in a courtroom. She’s a smart, sassy and ballsy woman who has a lot of street smarts and grit to her. She’s a much more interesting version of Bruiser. Everyone’s version is great, but I really just love that this character gets to be a woman.”
The Rainmaker airs on USA Network Fridays at 10 p.m. ET.
Climbing influencer, Balin Miller, has plunged to his death from El Capitan, a rock formation in California’s Yosemite National Park.
Balin’s death was livestreamed via TikTok by another Yosemite enthusiast at the time of the tragic incident, per multiple outlets. He was 23.
The Alaskan YouTuber’s mother, Jeanine Girard-Moorman, confirmed Balin’s death via a Facebook post shared on Wednesday, October 1.
“It is with a heavy heart I have to tell you my incredible son Balin Miller died during a climbing accident today,” she wrote. “My heart is shattered in a million pieces. I don’t know how I will get through this… I love him so much ❤️❤️❤️ I want to wake up from this horrible nightmare.”
Girard-Moorman shared via a statement that Balin’s passion was climbing.
“He’s been climbing since he was a young boy,” she said, per multiple outlets. “His heart and soul was truly to just climb. He loved to climb, and it was never about money and fame.”
While authorities have not yet released details of Balin’s death, witness and photographer Tom Evans shared a Facebook post recounting what he saw happen.
“Yesterday, a climber finished his climb of the Sea of Dreams, on ElCap, and was hauling his bag up the last pitch when it became stuck,” Evans wrote on Thursday, October 2. “So, he went down his lead line to clear it. His rope didn’t reach the bags location by many feet, but he seemed unaware of that fact. On the way down he rappelled off the end of the rope.”
Evans went on to pay tribute to Balin via the Facebook post.
“He was a young man, highly regarded among the best climbers here,” Evans continued. “I photographed him for many days on the climb and spoke with him earlier. Many climbers on the wall saw the tragedy unfold. These things happen from time to time but the pain never passes. Rest in peace Balin Miller.”
Meanwhile, the YouTuber’s brother, Dylan Miller, told the Associated Press that Balin was lead rope soloing up the Sea of Dreams, which is a 2,400-foot route. He echoed Evan’s versions of events, telling AP that Balin had likely finished the climb and was hauling the rest of his gear before falling after rappelling to the end of his rope.
Dylan shared his brother’s love for climbing with the outlet as he remembered his late sibling.
“He said he felt most alive when he was climbing,” Dylan said. “I’m his bigger brother but he was my mentor.”
