Kabambe shifts UTM’s gaze toward 2030 Elections

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-UTM President Dr. Dalitso Kabambe has declared that his party’s strategic focus is now firmly set on the 2030 general elections.

Speaking to local media this afternoon, Dr. Kabambe acknowledged the outcome of the 2025 polls, which were won by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), and said UTM will regroup to prepare for the future.

“We are just done with the 2025 elections in which the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) triumphed,” he stated.

Dr. Kabambe explained that UTM will return to the drawing board, assessing both the strengths and weaknesses of its campaign.

“We will go back to the drawing board to see what we did well and areas of improvement,” he added.

He further emphasized that the party intends to begin long-term planning, with an eye on organizational readiness and effective execution.

“We will start planning and execute our plans ahead of elections in 2030,” Kabambe said.

The UTM leader made these remarks at the Khulubvi Arts and Cultural Festival in Nsanje, where his presence also highlighted the party’s interest in strengthening its cultural and grassroots appeal.

Political analysts say Kabambe’s statement marks a pragmatic acknowledgment of reality. Having failed to capture the presidency in 2025, UTM now has five years to either consolidate its structures or seek fresh alliances that might amplify its influence in the next round.

The question of alliances looms large for UTM. Going solo in 2030 would test the party’s independent strength, but it risks repeating past struggles where limited regional support constrained its national appeal.

Conversely, forming alliances could provide broader reach and voter confidence, but it might dilute UTM’s identity, particularly if the coalition partners overshadow Kabambe’s leadership.

The precedent of the Tonse Alliance in 2020 provides critical lessons. That coalition, spearheaded by Lazarus Chakwera and Saulos Chilima, succeeded precisely because it merged complementary strengths and presented a unified front against the then-incumbent Peter Mutharika.

However, the post-victory challenges of the Tonse Alliance—marked by internal rivalries, competing ambitions, and disillusionment among supporters—also serve as a cautionary tale. Kabambe must weigh the benefits of alliance-building against the dangers of fragmented governance that often follows.

When mapping potential partners for 2030, the Democratic Progressive Party stands out first. Partnering with the DPP would give UTM immediate access to a well-established base in the Southern Region and the party’s strong rural machinery. Yet, with the DPP currently enjoying a resurgence after its 2025 victory, Kabambe risks being reduced to a secondary figure unless UTM brings decisive votes to the table.

Second, the Malawi Congress Party remains an option. An alliance with MCP could give UTM traction in the Central Region, but this path is complicated by history. UTM’s role as a junior partner in the Tonse Alliance left many of its supporters disillusioned. To partner again with MCP, Kabambe would need stronger guarantees of shared power and a clear strategy to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past. The bigger question would be whether UTM voters would forgive such a reunion.

Third, Kabambe could look beyond the traditional heavyweights and align with new or emerging movements. This would allow UTM to play a leading role in shaping a fresh coalition brand, unburdened by past baggage. The risk, however, is that such movements often lack resources, structures, and staying power, making them unpredictable allies in a high-stakes election.

Fourth, there remains the option of going solo. If UTM chooses to run independently, it could use the coming years to strengthen grassroots structures and position itself as a credible alternative to both MCP and DPP. This would help preserve UTM’s identity, but it comes with the danger of electoral isolation in a political environment that has historically favored alliances.

And finally, Kabambe must confront the broader truth of Malawi’s political terrain: the hard math of elections rarely rewards isolation. The precedent of the Tonse Alliance showed both the power and the pitfalls of coalition-building. For Kabambe, the challenge is to craft a partnership where UTM is not simply a junior partner but a decisive force.

Looking ahead, UTM’s future seems far more likely to be shaped by alliances than by a solo run. Kabambe’s boldest path to the presidency may well lie in building a coalition that preserves his party’s identity while leveraging the broader electoral appeal of strategic partners. If he can strike that balance, 2030 could mark not just UTM’s comeback, but Kabambe’s breakthrough.

Exposed! Luthando Holdings allegedly collects MK4.bn in Chakwera leadership without supplying single motorcycle after year winning four contracts

….As Mutharika takes charge of state affairs…
….Luthando is not legitimate Yamaha dealer in Malawi….

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-One of the country’s motorcycles and spare parts suppliers Luthando Holdings Limited is being accused of collecting about MK4 billion from four government agencies without supplying any single motorcycles after a year of winning contracts.

This publication understands that Luthando Holdings was awarded four contracts with instruction from the former President Lazarus Chakwera Statehouse in pretext of being local supplier Company.

For instance in 2024, Luthando got contracts from ESCOM to supply motorcycles pegged at MK483, 792,009.05 and MK1,351,400,000.00 from Malawi Police Service (MPS) to supply 20 motorcycles.

Not only that but also this year, 2025, the same Chakwera government through NEEF and National Local Government Finance Committee offered Luthando Holdings MK2, 147,152,085,00 and MK868,000.000.00 to supply motorcycles respectively.

Despite Luthando collecting funds from all public institutions, no single motorcycle has been delivered.

This publication has documents which head of the four institutions awarded contracts to Luthando while reminding the company’s owner Hedrex Laher to meet the supply chain, nothing to show instead he demanded extra funds.

According to sources at MPS where Luthando is supposed to supply 20 motorcycles, the company demanded extra funds of 50% in reference to forex crisis the nation is going through.

Efforts to get feedback from Luthando Holdings proved futile of several attempts on his mobile phone.

Therefore, with the change of leadership, the nation expects President Arthur Peter Mutharika administration to review all government contracts which have failed to meet the requirements including Luthando.

Luthando has been using fake Yamaha dealership certificates to win government contracts with support from Chakwera’s State House.

In 2022, Yamaha Motor Corporation Japan formally appointed Paramount Holdings as the sole authorized distributor of Yamaha motorcycles and related products in Malawi.

During Chakwera era, Laher has been using the legal system in bad faith to eliminate competition, relying on unofficial channels and political pressure.

“Laher has consistently used unofficial channels and political connections to harass business rivals, but the truth always comes out,” said a source familiar with the case.

Further concerns have emerged about Luthando Holdings’ unauthorized use of the Yamaha trademark.

The company has reportedly advertised Yamaha-branded products across Malawi—despite lacking any formal authorization from Yamaha Japan.

Legal experts have criticized these actions as misleading and potentially fraudulent.

Luthando is allegedly to have bid for government tenders using documentation from Yamaha agents based in South Africa—raising questions about the legitimacy of such practices under Malawi’s procurement laws.

Shutdown Day 3, No Jobs Report, Trump Pressures Universities

Senators are set to vote again on competing spending bills to fund the government, with neither side budging and looming consequences of a prolonged shutdown. The shutdown is also blinding businesses and policymakers by halting the release of the closely watched monthly jobs report. And the White House is pressuring top universities to sign an agreement tying federal funding to Trump’s policy demands on free speech, tuition, and diversity.

Taylor Swift Addresses Whether She’ll Go on Tour Again Soon: ‘I Am So Tired’

Taylor Swift is addressing whether she’ll go on tour again to support her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl.

“No,” Swift, 35, responded when BBC Radio 1’s Greg James asked whether she had the “itch” for another tour “soon” in an interview on Friday, October 3.

“I’m going to be really honest with you, like, I am so tired,” the singer said. “When I think about doing it again … because I would want to do it really well, again.”

Swift wrapped her record-breaking Eras Tour in December 2024 after performing 149 over nearly two years.

“I had so much fun on that tour,” she told James. “It was obviously the most exhausting challenge ever, physically. I’ll never forget what I saw.”

“I could see everyone from the stage. I don’t think they know that — I have incredible vision,” the “Fate of Ophelia” singer said. “I could see miles past [in] the stadium. I could see their experience and their joy, and that fed me, fueled me, even when I was exhausted and tired.”

Despite her positive experience on the tour, Swift admitted that she doesn’t miss the grueling schedule that came with the tour. (Swift performed across five continents for over three hours each night.)

“I’m so good right now,” she said. “Like, my joints are good. I have hobbies again! I could only do the Eras Tour when I was on the Eras Tour. That was just two years of having no other hobbies.”

“So now I have hobbies again,” she added, referring to her recent appreciation for baking sourdough.

Swift dropped her 12th studio album on Friday, which includes several references to her fiancé, Travis Kelce.

On the track “The Fate of Ophelia,” Swift sings, “I heard you calling / On the megaphone / You wanna see me all alone,” in an apparent reference to Kelce, also 35, publicly shooting his shot with the singer in July 2023 before they started dating.

At the time, Kelce said on his “New Heights” podcast that he attended the Eras Tour and tried to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it.

The couple began dating later that summer and announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post in August.

“I appreciate everybody that reached out and sent something and all the posts and all the excitement that’s been going on,” Kelce thanked fans for their outpouring of support during a September episode of the “New Heights” podcast. “It’s been really fun telling everybody who I’m going to be spending the rest of my life with.”

Taylor Swift References Travis Kelce’s ‘New Heights’ Podcast on New Album

Taylor Swift is a 92 Percenter!

The pop superstar references her fiancé Travis Kelce‘s “New Heights” podcast in a song on her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, which she released on Friday, October 3.

The upbeat, ’70s-inspired ninth track, “Wood,” finds Swift, 35, acknowledging she had bad luck in previous relationships but no longer has to worry about her fortune now that she has found The One in the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, also 35.

“Girls, I don’t need to catch the bouquet / To know a hard rock is on the way,” she sings. “And, baby, I’ll admit I’ve been a little superstitious / The curse on me was broken by your magic wand / Seems to me that you and me, we make our own luck / New heights of manhood / I ain’t gotta knock on wood.”

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Relationship Timeline Before Engagement

Travis and his brother, Jason Kelce, have cohosted “New Heights” since September 2022, but the podcast surged in popularity after the three-time Super Bowl champion started dating Swift in the summer of 2023.

The 14-time Grammy winner made her “New Heights” debut in August, setting a Guinness World Record for the most concurrent YouTube views for a podcast with a whopping 1.3 million. (The video now has more than 23 million views.)

During the episode, Swift spoke candidly about her relationship with Travis, her record-breaking Eras Tour and buying back her master recordings after a high-profile dispute in addition to announcing the release of The Life of a Showgirl.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to hear every single song on here, so I know they’re all 12 bangers,” Travis teased to listeners at the time. “It’s a lot more upbeat, and it’s a lot more, like, fun pop, like, excitement. … I think it’s a complete 180 from a lot of the songs on [Swift’s 2024 double album, The Tortured Poets Department].”

The NFL star added, “It’s just so much fun to listen to, man. I’ve been dancing throughout the house.”

Later that month, the couple shared even more news: They are engaged after two years together.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift captioned photos of Travis proposing in a flower-filled garden in the backyard of his home.

A source recently told Us Weekly exclusively that the “Lover” singer has already started planning her wedding to the football player, though they are still in the “very early” stages.

“They don’t want to have a big, over-the-top wedding with a ton of people. It will be private with friends and family, not a ton of celebrities or random people,” the source shared. “It will be meaningful, and they will be surrounded by people who are special to them.”

The source added, “Despite their celebrity, they are down-to-earth and normal. They aren’t the flashy people who want a $20 million fantasy wedding. She doesn’t want the pomp and circumstance. It will be more intimate.”

Taylor Swift Releases Her 12th Album ‘The Life of a Showgirl’

The wait is over! Taylor Swift’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl, is officially out now.

The pop superstar, 35, released her 12th studio record on streaming services and in stores on Friday, October 3. It is the follow-up to Swift’s double album The Tortured Poets Department, which she dropped in April 2024.

“I can’t tell you how proud I am to share this with you, an album that just feels so right,” Swift wrote via Instagram just after midnight alongside additional snaps from the album’s photo shoot. “A forever thank you goes out to my mentors and friends Max [Martin] and Shellback for helping me paint this self portrait. If you thought the big show was wild, perhaps you should come and take a look behind the curtain … The Life of a Showgirl is out now.”

The Life of a Showgirl includes 12 new songs: “The Fate of Ophelia,” “Elizabeth Taylor,” “Opalite,” “Father Figure,” “Eldest Daughter,” “Ruin the Friendship,” “Actually Romantic,” “Wish List,” “Wood,” “Cancelled!,” “Honey” and “The Life of a Showgirl” featuring Sabrina Carpenter.

From Friday through Sunday, October 5, Swift is celebrating The Life of a Showgirl with an official release party. Fans can see the “Fate of Ophelia” music video, lyric videos for the other 11 songs and behind-the-scenes album insights from Swift in movie theaters across the country.

Swift announced the impending arrival of her 12th album during her “New Heights” podcast debut in August, revealing the title, release date and tracklist at the time. She also shared her initial thought process for the project.

Taylor Swift’s Song Lyrics Decoded: Celebs Featured in Her Songs

“I essentially said to [producer Martin], ‘I want to be as proud of an album as I am of The Eras Tour and for the same reasons,’ and he was like, ‘Do you understand what kind of pressure that is?’” she recalled.

Swift subsequently began coproducing the album with Martin and Shellback — whom she previously worked with on Red, 1989 and Reputation — during the European leg of The Eras Tour in 2024.

“I’d do, like, three shows in a row, I’d have three days off, I’d fly to Sweden, [then] go back to the tour,” she explained. “Actually, working on this, I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating.”

Taylor Swift’s Sparkly Style Evolution: Thigh-High Slits, Sheer Looks, More

Swift then elaborated on how she achieved her lofty expectations for the album.

“We knew that we had to bring the best ideas we’ve ever had, and I also know the pressure I’m putting on this record by saying that, but I don’t care because I love it that much. I’m so proud of it,” she gushed. “It just comes from the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life, and so that effervescence has come through on this record.”

Taylor added that The Life of a Showgirl is about “everything that was going on behind the curtain” in her personal life during The Eras Tour.

“This album isn’t really about what happened to me on stage. It’s about what I was going through off stage,” she clarified. “It’s the life beyond the show.”
