FGRF support sparks fresh call for sustainable food solutions in Mangochi

MANGOCHI-(MaraviPost)-Humanitarian assistance in Mangochi has reignited discussions on long-term food security, as communities in Makawa under Senior Chief Mponda continue to grapple with hunger.

This follows the latest intervention by the Faizan Global Relief Foundation (FGRF), which reached 1,500 people with maize flour.

During the handover ceremony, Agriculture Minister Roza Fatch Mbilizi said the donation reflects the urgent need for stronger partnerships to address the country’s worsening food crisis.

She stressed that Malawi cannot rely on relief distribution alone and must invest in systems that help communities withstand recurring droughts.

Mbilizi noted that with over four million Malawians facing hunger, government efforts through the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) remain critical.

However, she called on development partners to complement these efforts with programmes that also empower farmers with modern farming tools and technologies.

The minister emphasised that repeated food shortages highlight deeper structural challenges in the agricultural sector.

She urged organisations working in disaster response to integrate resilience building initiatives such as irrigation support, seed distribution and climate smart agriculture.

FGRF spokesperson Ibrahim Omar Mataya said the foundation understands these long-term needs and is exploring ways to expand its support beyond emergency food distribution.

The current maize flour donation, worth K20 million, is expected to be followed by six months of additional assistance.

Mataya revealed that FGRF is considering incorporating soy flour and cooking oil to improve nutrition, especially among children and elderly people who are most affected during periods of scarcity.

Community members, while appreciative, echoed concerns about their inability to produce enough food due to last year’s crop failure. Many farms yielded almost nothing after prolonged dry spells destroyed maize fields before harvesting time.

For elderly beneficiaries like 65-year-old Jafali Naphwata, the relief brings temporary comfort, but his fears linger as the next farming season approaches without adequate seed or fertilizer.

He appealed to government and well wishers to support farmers with inputs to avoid another cycle of hunger.

Traditional leaders in the area also expressed the need for coordinated interventions that go beyond short-term handouts.

They believe empowering communities with farming resources would reduce dependency on emergency aid over time.

The donation has therefore sparked broader conversations about how Mangochi and the country at large can shift from crisis-driven responses to sustainable food systems that can withstand climate shocks.

South Africa’s G20 Presidency highlights Africa’s growth and global cooperation

PRETORIA-(MaraviPost)-President Cyril Ramaphosa has delivered the closing remarks at the G20 Leaders Summit, reflecting on South Africa’s historic tenure as the first African nation to host the forum.

In his address, President Ramaphosa extended his gratitude to G20 member states, invited countries, international organisations, and all participants for their support during South Africa’s Presidency.

He emphasised that the commitment of participating nations had been crucial in reaffirming the G20’s role as the premier platform for international economic cooperation and in addressing the world’s most pressing challenges.

President Ramaphosa noted that the summit occurred during a period of significant global difficulties, yet member states demonstrated the ability to unite and pursue a better world collectively.

South Africa’s leadership of the G20 placed Africa’s growth and development at the centre of the agenda, highlighting the continent’s potential as a key driver of 21st-century prosperity.

He stressed that realising this potential requires strong partnerships between Africa and the G20, and more broadly, between Africa and the global community.

President Ramaphosa also addressed the urgent need for global peace, calling for the cessation of conflicts and wars, and advocating for comprehensive and lasting resolutions.

The summit, he said, coincided with growing worldwide demands to tackle poverty, reduce inequality, and combat climate change.

Particular attention was given to the mounting debt burden in developing economies, which hampers their progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The G20 pledged to provide support to low- and middle-income countries facing debt vulnerabilities, with the aim of creating a virtuous cycle of reduced debt, higher public investment, and inclusive economic growth.

Disaster resilience and climate adaptation were central themes, with President Ramaphosa noting that climate-induced natural disasters disproportionately affect nations with limited capacity to recover.

South Africa introduced the High-Level Voluntary Principles for Investing in Disaster Risk Reduction, encouraging international collaboration to enhance investment in both prevention and post-disaster recovery.

The summit also advanced discussions on the just energy transition, emphasising the need for climate finance, support for developing economies, and the mobilisation of private capital to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions.

President Ramaphosa highlighted the G20 Critical Minerals Framework as a key initiative to ensure that mineral resources contribute to sustainable development worldwide.

The South African Presidency also marked the conclusion of the first cycle of G20 Presidencies, during which the G20@20 Review was undertaken to gather perspectives from all participating members and guest countries.

Overall, the summit underscored the G20’s commitment to inclusive global cooperation, sustainable development, and Africa’s growing role on the international stage.

Bullets turn tables on Civil in TNM Super league clash

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-FCB Nyasa Big Bullets staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Civil Service United 4-3 in a pulsating TNM Super League match on Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium.

Civil started the match on the front foot and stunned the home crowd just eight minutes into the game when Chikaiko Batison finished off a move initiated from a corner.

Bullets, however, responded in the 16th minute through Peter Banda, who equalized after a well-timed pass from Ephraim Kondowe.

A costly mistake from goalkeeper Innocent Nyasulu in the 28th minute gifted Batison his second of the afternoon, restoring Civil’s lead and putting the hosts under pressure once again.

The turning point for Bullets came in the 35th minute when Babatunde Adepoju was introduced. His presence immediately changed the rhythm of their attack and two minutes later, Chikumbutso Salima pounced on a rebound to level the scores 2-2, sparking excitement in the stands.

With halftime approaching, Bullets’ momentum grew stronger.

In the 44th minute, Mapemba whipped in a corner which Salima headed home to give the hosts the lead for the first time although Civil protested for offside, resulting in head coach Abbas Makawa being shown a red card after a heated exchange with match officials.

The second half kicked off with Bullets carrying their attacking form and in the 55th minute, Salima completed a sensational hat-trick—his third goal assisted by Babatunde. The home side looked comfortable at 4-2.

Civil, however, refused to surrender. Batison completed his own hat-trick in the 71st minute after a clever pass from Khumbo Mhone, reducing the deficit and setting up a tense finish.

After the match, Bullets assistant coach Gilbert Chirwa praised his players for showing fighting spirit, urging supporters to respect the technical decisions made during matches.

On the other side, Civil head coach Abbas Makawa who had been sent off expressed disappointment, especially with Bullets’ third goal, insisting that the ball had not crossed the line and that the decision changed the complexion of the game.

Chikumbutso Salima was deservedly named Player of the Match, while Civil’s Batison walked away with the match ball after his brilliant hat-trick.

Bullets are sitting in 1st position with 53 points from 23 matches while Civil Service United are in 4th position with 37 points from the same number of games.

Ghana’s President John Mahama backs anti-LGBTQ+ law

ACCRA-(MaraviPost)-Ghanaian President John Mahama has hinted will sign a new anti-LGBTQ+ law if Parliament approves it, according to the rights group Rightify Ghana.

The Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, first passed in 2024 but halted by legal challenges, has now been reintroduced.

If approved, identifying as LGBTQ+ could carry up to 3 years in prison, while promoting LGBTQ+ rights or funding related groups could lead to up to 10 years.

The bill would also ban same-sex marriage, attending same-sex weddings, and gender-affirming care.

Ghana already criminalizes same-sex sexual activity under colonial-era laws, but this bill would expand penalties significantly.

Mahama says he supports it, stressing that his government upholds “traditional family values.”

Tatiana Schlossberg Calls Out Cousin RFK Jr. While Announcing Her Cancer

Tatiana Schlossberg condemned her cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for his vaccine skepticism while announcing her terminal cancer diagnosis.

The environmental reporter, 35, shared the heartbreaking news in a New Yorker essay on Saturday, November 22, that she’d been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and had been given one year to live by her doctors.

Schlossberg was initially diagnosed after giving birth to her daughter — whose name she has kept private — in May 2024. (Schlossberg and her husband, George Moran, also share a son, Edwin, 3.) She spent several weeks in New York City’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital to undergo a bone marrow transplant and later received at-home chemotherapy treatments.

Schlossberg explained in her essay that her diagnosis coincided with her cousin RFK Jr., 71, suspending his independent presidential bid and endorsing Donald Trump in 2024. The vaccine skeptic eventually accepted a position in the Trump administration as the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.

How Cheryl Hines Reacted to Husband RFK Jr’s Affair With Olivia Nuzzi

“In August, 2024, he suspended his campaign and endorsed Donald Trump, who said that he was going to ‘let Bobby go wild’ on health,” Schlossberg wrote in the New Yorker. “My mother wrote a letter to the Senate, to try and stop his confirmation; my brother had been speaking out against his lies for months. I watched from my hospital bed as Bobby, in the face of logic and common sense, was confirmed for the position, despite never having worked in medicine, public health, or the government.”

The journalist recalled feeling like the entire health scare system was “strained [and] shaky” at the exact moment she was reliant on round-the-clock care.

Schlossberg reflected on the additional stress of her husband, George, working as a doctor at Columbia University. (The Trump administration withdrew $400 million in grants to Columbia University in March 2025 over complaints about its response to pro-Palestinian protests on campus. A deal was later reached to restore some of the funding.)

“Columbia was one of the Trump Administration’s first targets in its crusade against alleged antisemitism on campuses; in May, the university laid off a hundred and eighty researchers after federal-funding cuts,” she wrote. “If George changed jobs, we didn’t know if we’d be able to get insurance, now that I had a preëxisting condition. Bobby is a known skeptic of vaccines, and I was especially concerned that I wouldn’t be able to get mine again, leaving me to spend the rest of my life immunocompromised, along with millions of cancer survivors, small children, and the elderly.”

Schlossberg also called out her relative for his controversial remarks on the “Lex Fridman Podcast” in 2023 that “there’s no vaccine that is safe and effective.” (Kennedy later downplayed those comments by insisting he’s “pro safety” rather than “anti-vaccine.”)

“Bobby probably doesn’t remember the millions of people who were paralyzed or killed by polio before the vaccine was available,” she added. “My dad, who grew up in New York City in the 1940s and ‘50s, does remember. Recently, I asked him what it was like when he got the vaccine. He said that it felt like freedom.”

Elsewhere in her poignant New Yorker essay, Schlossberg acknowledged her utter shock at being diagnosed with cancer at nine months pregnant.

“I did not — could not — believe that they were talking about me. I had swum a mile in the pool the day before, nine months pregnant. I wasn’t sick. I didn’t feel sick. I was actually one of the healthiest people I knew,” Tatiana wrote in The New Yorker. “I had a son whom I loved more than anything and a newborn I needed to take care of.”

Schlossberg is far from the first member of the Kennedy family to come out against RFK Jr. Five Kennedy family members— Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Courtney Kennedy, Kerry Kennedy, Chris Kennedy and Rory Kennedy — released a joint statement denouncing their brother when he endorsed Trump in August 2024.

“We want an America filled with hope and bound together by a shared vision of a brighter future, a future defined by individual freedom, economic promise and national pride,” they said.

Their letter continued “Our brother Bobby’s decision to endorse Trump today is a betrayal of the values that our father and our family hold most dear. It is a sad ending to a sad story.”

Cheryl Hines Calls Out Olivia Nuzzi 1 Year After RFK Jr.’s Alleged Affair

During an interview on CNN, Robert argued that political differences within his family were no different to those faced by millions of Americans.

“I have a big family,” he said. “I don’t know anyone in America who’s got a family who agrees with them on everything.”

Following Robert’s nomination to the HHS department in early 2025, Tatiana’s mother Caroline Kennedy criticized the nomination because her cousin lacked “any relevant, government, financial, management or medical experience.”

“His views on vaccines are dangerous and wilfully misinformed,” Caroline added.

Tatiana’s younger brother, Jack Schlossberg, even trolled Robert’s wife, Cheryl Hines, in July 2025.

“I have never met Cheryl Hines, but if I did, I’d tell her she looks super dehydrated,” Schlossberg, 32, quipped via X on July 23.

Earlier this month, Jack announced plans to run for Congress in New York’s 12th congressional district in the 2026 midterm elections.

“I’m not running because I have all the answers to our problems. I’m running because the people of New York 12 do. I want to listen to your struggles, hear your stories, amplify your voice, go to Washington and execute on your behalf,” he wrote via Instagram.

Jack continued, “There is nowhere I’d rather be than in the arena fighting for my hometown. Over the next eight months, during the course of this campaign, I hope to meet as many of you as I can. If you see me on the street, please say hello. If I knock on your door, I hope we can have a conversation. Because politics should be personal.”

Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker Celebrate Daughter’s Birthday After Split

Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker reunited for their daughter Blaze’s 6th birthday one day after announcing their split.

People reported that the estranged couple threw a Snow White-themed party for Blaze at Ready, Set FUN! in Atlanta, Georgia, on Saturday, November 22. The outlet published a photograph of Burruss and Tucker posing together with Blaze, who wore a princess dress. (The former couple also share a son, Ace, 8, while Kandi has an older daughter, Next Gen NYC star Riley Burruss, 23, from a previous relationship.)

Both Burruss, 49, and Tucker, 53, also posted separate birthday messages for Blaze via Instagram on Saturday.

“Happy birthday to my little twin @blazetucker!!! Time is flying by! I can’t believe you’re six years old already… so strong, smart, talented, creative, big personality, & a winner! My beautiful little princess,” Burruss wrote alongside a carousel of photos. “I love you so much. Everybody give @blazetucker some bday love!”

Tucker shared his own carousel of photos, along with the birthday shoutout: “Happy Birthday to my Baby Blaze! She [is] my Beautiful little princess! She warms my heart every time I see her. @blazetucker where did the time go 6 yrs old! Daddy. Loves you with all his heart!!!”

Only one day before Blaze’s birthday party, Burruss released a statement to Us Weekly to confirm her separation from Tucker after 11 years of marriage.

“After deep thought and a lot of prayer, I’ve made the decision to move forward with a divorce. This is a difficult and emotional time, but my focus remains on protecting my peace, being the best mother I can be, and co-parenting with love and respect,” Burruss, told Us.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum continued, “I’m stepping into a new chapter pouring into my work, my family and my own growth. I’m grateful to everyone who supported us throughout the years, and I ask for privacy, grace and understanding as we navigate this transition with our family.”

The shocking separation announcement was made one week after Burruss paid tribute to Tucker while accepting the Wifetime Achievement Award at BravoCon 2025 in Las Vegas on November 14. She celebrated Tucker for standing by her side throughout all of the mudslinging that comes with being a Housewife.

“To Todd, thank you for surviving the blogs, the shade, the rumors, the lies, the truth, the almost fights, the actual fights, the reunions,” she said with a laugh. “You earned this award too.”

In April 2024, the former couple dodged a fresh round of split rumors shortly after Burruss announced her departure from RHOA. (The singer-songwriter spent 14 seasons as one of Atlanta’s Housewives before quitting in February 2024.).

“It is tough. You’re always on stage and you can’t really kind of relax out in public,” Tucker admitted exclusively to Us. “But for me, I think from doing reality TV early on with her, I really don’t pay it any more. We know what’s going on.”

Riley Burruss Explains Why Mom Kandi Hasn’t Cut Her Off Financially

At the time, Burruss credited the success of their marriage to good communication.

“He’s a better communicator than I am. I’m one of those people where if I get in a mood, I kind of shut down,” she admitted. “I don’t want to talk until I’ve completely calmed down because I’m afraid I’ll say something that I didn’t want to say and it comes off harsh. But he likes to communicate and get it all out. He really helps us get through it because we have to talk through it.”

Tucker added, “What I try to do, I try to reverse things and put myself in her shoes. … It’s a lot of work. It’s a lot of work. But the thing is it’s fun and 10 years went by so fast. It could have been a long 10 years, but it has been an amazing ride.”

Burruss met Tucker when he was working as a line producer on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. They tied the knot at Le Fais Do-Do in Atlanta in April 2014, and subsequently welcomed son, Ace, in January 2016 and daughter Blaze in November 2019.

How Ryan Reynolds Got Gwyneth Paltrow in Astronomer PSA After Coldplay Video

Ryan Reynolds apparently played a big role in nabbing Gwyneth Paltrow to star in that post-Coldplay-scandal ad for Astronomer.

Reynolds’ company, Maximum Effort, helped produce the promotional spot, which debuted just days after Astronomer’s married CEO Andy Byron was caught with a coworker on the Kiss Cam at a Coldplay concert in July.

“Just 14 hours later, I’m paying for that,” Reynolds said of Paltrow’s PSA at the Wall Street Journal’s CMO Council Summit on Tuesday, November 18.

Of the tongue-in-cheek ad starring Coldplay frontman Chris Martin’s ex-wife, Reynolds added: “[I didn’t] have their blessing yet, but I [knew] that nobody at that time … knew what Astronomer does. So I was like, ‘What if Gwyneth explained it?’”

How Ryan Reynolds Was Involved in Gwyneth Paltrow’s Viral Astronomer Ad

In the video, posted on Astronomer’s official X page with the caption, “Thank you for your interest in Astronomer,” Paltrow, 53, appeared as the company’s “Temporary Spokesperson.” She was on hand to explain what the company does, while poking fun at the viral moment between Byron, 51, and Astronomer’s Chief People Officer Kristin Cabot.

“I’ve been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300-plus employees at Astronomer,” Paltrow said, before explaining the company had received “a lot of questions” in recent days.

“OMG! What the actual f?,” popped up on screen, and Paltrow dodged the inquiry, instead explaining “airflow, running data ML and AI pipelines at scale.”

When, “How is your social media team holding [up] …” appeared as another question, the actress once again pivoted to the company’s “game-changing results.”

“It turns out, Astronomer’s an amazing company,” Reynolds insisted on Tuesday. “They really do some amazing stuff.”

“But it was a real opportunity for them to take the conversation away from where it was, which was quite toxic, I think, and really focus on something that mattered in a way that was fun and easy and emotional and lovely,” Reynolds added.

Astronomer Cofounder Breaks Silence on Coldplay Kiss Cam Controversy

During Coldplay’s gig at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts, on July 16, the band used a Kiss Cam to showcase couples in the audience on the jumbotron — but Byron did not seem thrilled when he was caught with his arms around coworker Cabot, 53, and not his wife, Megan Kerrigan Byron, who was not present.

“Whoa, look at these two. All right, come on. You’re OK,” Martin, 48, said. “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy. I’m not quite sure what to do.”

He added, “Holy s***. I hope we didn’t do something bad.”

Both Byron and Cabot stepped down from their roles at Astronomer following the scandal, and Cabot, who was separated from husband Andrew at the time, subsequently filed for divorce.

Byron has not publicly commented on what happened but was seen with his wife several times as of late. Both wore their wedding rings in photos obtained by the Daily Mail.

For their part, Paltrow and Martin were married from 2003 to 2014 and share two children, Apple, 21, and Moses, 19. They changed the celebrity-split game when they announced their separation in a post on Goop’s website titled “Conscious Uncoupling.”
