Political prostitute Brown Mpinganjira dumps MCP for DPP

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-James Brown Mpinganjira, a seasoned politician and former MCP stalwart, has defected to the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), citing the party’s commitment to the welfare of Malawians.

However, not everyone is welcoming Mpinganjira’s move, with political commentator Mathews Namukhoyo urging the DPP to exercise caution.

According to Mpinganjira, his decision to leave the MCP was motivated by the party’s failure to deliver on its promises to Malawians.

“It was just a waste of time to be in MCP as it failed Malawians,” Mpinganjira said, adding that, “But DPP is the only party that has the heart of Malawians, and I’m excited to be part of a team that is working tirelessly to improve the lives of our people.”

However, Mpinganjira’s track record has raised eyebrows, with many questioning his motives for joining the DPP.

Mpinganjira previously defected from the DPP to the MCP, where he campaigned vigorously for the party and disparaged the DPP, claiming it would not win. Now, he’s singing a different tune, sparking accusations of opportunism.

Namukhoyo, a vocal political commentator, has cautioned the DPP against welcoming Mpinganjira, describing him as a “greedy and prostitute politician.” “DPP should not allow any greedy politicians who just want to harvest when they didn’t sow,” Namukhoyo warned , adding that, “The party should work only with those who risked their lives and refused monetary incentives from MCP.”

Namukhoyo’s sentiments are echoed by many who feel that Mpinganjira’s defection is a blatant attempt to jump on the DPP bandwagon.

“These are people who were eating well in MCP, and now they’re coming to DPP just because they smell food,” said one MCP supporter, adding that, ”We shouldn’t forget that Mpinganjira was one of the most vocal MCP supporters when it suited him. Why should we trust him now?”

The DPP has yet to comment on Mpinganjira’s defection, but the party’s leadership will likely face pressure to clarify its stance on the matter.

As the party considers Mpinganjira’s application, it remains to be seen whether it will heed Namukhoyo’s warning or give Mpinganjira a chance to prove himself.

One thing is certain, however: Mpinganjira’s defection has sparked controversy, and only time will tell if it’s a wise move or a misstep.

Mkaka, Kaliati tussle over fresh probe on Chilima’s Chikangawa plane crash

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-A renewed political storm is brewing over the tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight others, as lawmakers trade accusations over calls for a fresh investigation.

Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Mpenu, Eisenhower Mkaka, has urged the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leadership to institute a new inquiry into the fatal crash, saying Malawians deserve the truth behind the incident.

Mkaka reminded Parliament that the Minister of Justice had earlier pledged to revisit the matter to clear the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) of any lingering allegations surrounding the tragedy.

“The nation deserves to know the truth. This investigation is not about politics but about justice and accountability for the lives that were lost,” Mkaka said.

His remarks came after UTM parliamentary leader Patricia Kaliati renewed her own demand for a comprehensive and transparent investigation, insisting that only an independent inquiry could restore public confidence in the government’s handling of the crash.

However, in a sharp turn, Kaliati later criticized Mkaka’s call, accusing the MCP of hypocrisy. She argued that the governmentthen under the MCPmade a “decisive but tragic” mistake when it allegedly ordered rescue teams to halt the search, a decision she believes contributed to the deaths of Chilima and the other victims.

“It is hypocritical for the MCP to now demand a new investigation when they were the ones who told rescuers to stop searching. That decision cost lives,” Kaliati charged.

The exchange underscores growing political tension as Malawians continue to demand clarity and accountability in the wake of the nation’s loss.

Calls for a fresh, independent probe continue to echo across the political divide, reflecting the deep public yearning for closure and justice.

Activists urge new Chief Prosecutor Maele to recuse himself from Chinese wildlife convict Lin’s corruption case

…Lin adamant on bail application despite being a proven flight risk…

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-As the bail hearing for convicted wildlife trafficker Yunhua Lin on fresh corruption charges is set for tomorrow, environmentalists and anti-corruption activists are calling on Festino Maele, recently appointed as Malawi’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), to recuse himself from the case to avoid a conflict of interest.

Maere has been representing Lin in a corruption case in which the Chinese national is accused of attempting to bribe a High Court judge and prison officials to secure his release.

The case arose shortly after Lin’s controversial presidential pardon in July, which was followed by his re-arrest by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

Flight Risk Concerns
Lin’s recent bail applications have been repeatedly denied over fears that he is a flight risk.

Last month, Principal Resident Magistrate Benjamin Chulu dismissed his application, agreeing with state prosecutor Peter Sambani from the ACB that Lin was likely to abscond trial.

Sambani argued that Lin’s family members — who were convicted alongside him — fled to China immediately after being pardoned, raising fears that Lin would do the same if granted bail.

This is not the first time Lin’s bid for freedom has been rejected.

In March last year, Deputy Chief Justice Lovemore Chikopa, sitting as a Supreme Court of Appeal judge, dismissed a similar application, echoing concerns over Lin’s flight risk.

In his ruling, Chikopa noted: “The state presented an affidavit by a police officer showing that while lawfully committed to prison, the applicant had been enjoying irregular time out. He is to that extent a flight risk.

If he can leave and return to prison at will while serving a sentence, there is nothing to stop him from leaving Malawi altogether and frustrating the final disposal of the anticipated appeal while on bail.”

Conflict of Interest Fears
Despite these previous court rejections, Lin — through Maele — has filed yet another bail application, set for hearing before the High Court on Friday.

However, Maere’s recent appointment as the country’s top prosecutor has sparked alarm among activists.

Environmental and anti-corruption advocates argue that his continued involvement in Lin’s case, or any other cases he previously handled as a private lawyer, could compromise the independence of the prosecution service.

“The appointment of Fostino Maele as DPP, while he has been representing a notorious wildlife convict, raises serious concerns about conflict of interest,” said Mathews Malata, a prominent environmentalist, in an interview with Maravi Post.

Malata wants DPP Maele to put interests on Malawians

“To maintain public trust and uphold the rule of law, DPP Maere must recuse himself from any involvement in this case.”

Malata added that justice must be allowed to take its course without political or institutional interference.

“As a key member of the new government, DPP Maele has an opportunity to demonstrate his commitment to protecting our natural resources and upholding the rule of law.

“We hope the Democratic Progressive Party-led government will take environmental crimes seriously, in line with its manifesto,” he said.

International Scrutiny
Lin’s wildlife and corruption cases have drawn widespread international attention, becoming a litmus test for Malawi’s resolve in tackling wildlife trafficking and corruption.

Experts warn that poor handling of such high-profile cases could undermine donor confidence in a country already grappling with severe social and economic challenges, including acute hunger.

While the international community has commended Malawi’s judiciary for securing a landmark conviction and lengthy prison term against Lin, it has also criticized the former president Lazarus Chakwera’s decision to pardon him.

The UK-based Telegraph quoted Paul Mvula, a local governance and human rights advocate, who questioned whether Lin met the conditions for clemency — such as serving at least half his sentence and demonstrating good behavior.

Mvula worried with Lin’s pardoning

New state charges now allege that Lin attempted to bribe a judge and prison officials while still in custody.

“This pardon raises serious governance issues,” Mvula told The Telegraph. “We believe the President may have been misinformed and urge a review and possible reversal of the clemency.”

A ranger from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife, speaking anonymously to The Telegraph, voiced concern that Lin’s release could embolden other traffickers and demoralize conservation workers.

“His arrest was a turning point,” the ranger said. “Letting him go undoes years of sacrifice by rangers and investigators.”

Golden Bachelor Mel Is ‘Undecided’ Between Final 2 Amid Fantasy Suite: Recap

Golden Bachelor Mel Owens is on the hunt for The One — and clarity — as he takes on the fantasy suites with his final two women.

The Wednesday, November 5, episode, kicked off with Mel, 66, traveling to Antigua with remaining contestants Peg Munson and Cindy Cullers — and teasing that the tropical location “could be the perfect place to fall in love.”

While gearing for his first overnight date, Mel noted that the fantasy suite is “not just about the physical relationship” and admitted to host Jesse Palmer that it’s a “razor thin” decision between Peg, 62, and Cindy, 60.

With hopes of lowering Peg’s “tough exterior,” Mel began his first overnight date with a drive on a dune buggy. Stopping for a drink at a lookout point, Peg opened up to Mel about continually taking on the role of the “protector” in her relationships and explaining that a romance for her is a “slow burn” — but vows to “go deep” when she allows herself to love.

When asked how he feels their romance is going, Mel simply replied, “Good.” After Mel promptly changed the subject (not a good omen if you ask Us!), Peg admitted in a confessional that she worries whether Mel is “emotionally available.”

The pair then enjoyed a dinner sitting side by side — and she tried to ask Mel, again, his thoughts on their relationship. This time, Mel admitted that he “really” likes Peg (“a lot”, he says!) and she gushes that she feels “the same way.” Mel and Peg ultimately decided to take on the fantasy suite and are greeted with rose petals covering the bed and music playing below their balcony.

As the twosome began kissing, Peg jokingly kicked out the camera crew. “OK, everybody can leave, we are done. Love you, but,” Peg said with a laugh, before placing the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door.

The next morning, Mel gushed that the night “exceeded” his expectations with a “perfect woman” with whom he’s “quite compatible.” After the twosome debrief opening up about their respective divorces, Peg added in a confessional, “I feel like we understand each other better now. … All of my concerns definitely got answered last night.”

Golden Bachelor Mel Owens Picks His Final 3 Ahead of Hometowns

Sealing his and Peg’s overnight date with a kiss on the beach, Mel then took on his fantasy suite with Cindy — which included a boat ride and swimming with stingrays (or, as Mel calls them, “prehistoric-sized monsters”).

“I’ve told him that I’m falling in love with him. I have no idea if he feels the same way that I do,” Cindy said in a confessional, noting that she’s hoping to understand Mel’s “plans” for their hypothetical future.

After a brief swim with the stingrays — Cindy gave Mel the “confidence” for him to stick his hand out, she shared in a confessional that she’s hoping for more reassurance in their relationship. Back on land, Mel admitted in a confessional that he’s “undecided” between the two women — a sentiment he then repeats to Cindy during dinner.

“I’ve never been in the position before so I’m still working it out in my head and in my heart. I know the time is quickly coming to an end, but that’s the truth. But I love spending time with you, I love being with you,” Mel told Cindy, adding that he can’t “sit here and tell you that we’re going to be happily ever after if there’s another person.”

Cindy, meanwhile, shared that she doesn’t want to “push” Mel, but is curious what’s “holding [him] back” (for her, the chemistry is “off the charts!”) In response, Mel noted that he’s not going to “take the leap of faith” — which Cindy retorted is the whole point of the show.

“But I’m smart enough to know that that’s not how my life operates,” Mel said, while Cindy replied, “So you knew when you agreed to be the Golden Bachelor that this ended in a proposal. Is that not a leap of faith for you?”

As they began discussing their past marriages, Mel noted that he took his time to tie the knot with his first wife and is unsure whether he’s ready to get married just yet. In the wake of Mel’s honesty, Cindy began to question whether his hesitations are because of her, a “tighter” relationship with Peg, or “who he is.”

“So what do we do from here?” Cindy asked, while Mel replied, “If there’s a will, there’s a way.” With a cliff-hanger, Cindy concluded, “So that begs the question, is there a will?”

The Golden Bachelor season 2 finale airs on ABC Wednesday, November 12, at 9 p.m. ET.

Erika Kirk Says She Didn’t Get a ‘Goodbye Kiss’ Morning of Charlie’s Death

Erika Kirk sat down for her first televised interview since the death of her late husband, Charlie Kirk, earlier this year.

“I can’t help [but] smile to hear his name or say it,” Erika, 36, said during the Wednesday, November 5, episode of Jesse Watters Primetime. “He was the love of my life. [He] still is.”

Charlie and Erika were married from May 2021 until his death in September. The couple shared two children: a daughter and a son born in 2022 and 2024, respectively.

Charlie was shot and killed on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The Turning Point USA cofounder died after being transported to a local hospital. He was 31.

Erika and Charlie Kirk’s Relationship Timeline: Inside Their Love Story

“It’s with a heavy heart that we, the Turning Point USA leadership team, write to notify you that early this afternoon, Charlie went to his eternal reward with Jesus Christ in heaven,” Turning Point USA said in a statement at the time.

Accused shooter Tyler Robinson turned himself into police two days later. He has yet to enter a plea to charges of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, two counts of obstruction of justice, two counts of witness tampering and violent offense committed in the presence of a child.

Two days after Charlie’s death, Erika broke her silence in an X livestream.

“Charlie, I promise I will never let your legacy die, baby. I won’t,” she said in the video. “Oh, Charlie, I love you. I love you, baby. Rest in the arms of our Lord as he blankets you with the words I know your heart always strives to hear. Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Who Are Charlie Kirk’s Children? Meet His Son and Daughter

Later that month, Erika delivered an emotional eulogy during Charlie’s public memorial service, explaining why she chose to forgive her husband’s alleged shooter.

“I forgive him because it is what Christ did,” she said. “The answer to hate is not hate.”

Erika elaborated on her feelings about the matter in a New York Times interview published the same day as the memorial service.

“I’ve had so many people ask, ‘Do you feel anger toward this man? Like, do you want to seek the death penalty?’” she told the outlet. “I’ll be honest. I told our lawyer, I want the government to decide this. I do not want that man’s blood on my ledger. Because when I get to heaven, and Jesus is like: ‘Uh, eye for an eye? Is that how we do it?’ And that keeps me from being in heaven, from being with Charlie?”

Charlie Kirk Shooting Death Investigation: Updates on the Case

The following month, Erika reacted to criticism of her public grief over Charlie’s death.

“There is no linear blueprint for grief. One day you’re collapsed on the floor crying out the name Jesus in between labored breaths,” she wrote via Instagram in October. “The next you’re playing with your children in the living room surrounded by family photos and feeling a rush of something you can only attempt to define as divinely planted and bittersweet joy as a smile breaks through your face.”

She continued, “They say time heals. But love doesn’t ask to be healed. Love asks to be remembered. It’s humbling to realize that this magnitude of suffering didn’t steal my love for my husband. It amplified it. It crystallized it.”

Erika added that she carries Charlie “in every breath, in every ache and in every quiet act of day to day living as I attempt to relearn what that rhythm will be.”

“And what I’ve realized through these past 30 days is the greater the suffering, the purer the love,” she concluded. “And I have never loved him more than I do now.”

Keep scrolling for the biggest revelations from Erika’s sitdown with Watters:

Erika Kirk and Charlie Kirk ‘Always’ Received Death Threats

Erika Kirk shared that before Charlie Kirk’s murder, she and her husband were used to receiving alarming messages online.

“We get kidnapping threats we always have,” she said. “We get death threats we always have.”

Before Charlie’s college tour appearance, Erika brought up the idea of him wearing a safety vest.

“I used to say, ‘You know Charlie, have you ever thought about wearing a vest?’ He would nod to that and be like, ‘I’ve looked into it,’ but he would always say, ‘if they’re going to get me, they’re going to get me,’” she recalled. “He wasn’t afraid. It wouldn’t have mattered.”

Why Erika Kirk Wasn’t With Charlie Kirk at College Tour Stop

During the time of Turning Point’s event in Utah, Erika Kirk needed to stay behind in Arizona with her mom for a health issue.

“He was like, ‘Home needs you … Come with me on Thursday to the next event we have. That night, he was so excited,” she said, adding that Charlie Kirk was running late in the morning and didn’t have time to give her a goodbye kiss.

How Erika Kirk Learned About the Shooting

Erika Kirk explained that she was with her mom at a “doctor’s appointment” before she got the call about her husband’s death.

“I have my phone, and I see the video come in with him flinging out the hats. And I said, ‘Mom, look, it started.’ So we saw the hats being flung. I put my phone down, and it was on silent,” she recalled. “So I had no reason to look back at it. I moved my mom. I went back to grab my phone, and that’s when Mikey started calling me.”

After learning what happened, Erika was ready to be by her husband’s side.

“I’m just like, ‘Charlie’s been shot. He’s been shot. Get the kids. Get security. Get the kids. He’s been shot.’ I sprinted out of her treatment center, just collapsed in the middle of the parking lot,” she reflected.

Erika Kirk Recounts Seeing Charlie Kirk in the Hospital After His Death

As soon as Erika Kirk arrived in Utah, she headed directly to the hospital to see Charlie Kirk. While law enforcement advised against Erika seeing Charlie in that state, she was adamant about it.

“The room got quiet because half the room knew it’s probably a good idea, and the other half the room was like, ‘There is no way she’s listening to you right now.’ And I responded back to him, and I said, ‘With all due respect, sir, I want to see what they did to my husband, and I want to give him a kiss, because I didn’t get to give him a kiss this morning,’” she said. “And I said the same thing to the doctor.”

The doctor allowed Erika to see Charlie and shared that he still looked “so alive.”

“He was still warm and his eyes were slightly open. He had this smirk on his face,” she shared. “It meant three things to me. First, that he died doing what he loved. Second was that he was at peace. [Third], I gave him a kiss,”

Erika Kirk ‘Never’ Saw the Video of Charlie Kirk’s Death

While the video of Charlie Kirk’s death was shared all over social media, Erika Kirk has not seen it and will never watch it in the future.

“There’s certain things you see in your life that you can never unsee. There’s certain things you see in your life that mark your soul forever,” she said. “I want my husband’s public assassination to be something I never see. I never want my kids to see. And for people who actually enjoy watching that she’s quite literally sick.”

What Erika Kirk Said to Jimmy Kimmel After His Comments About Charlie Kirk’s Alleged Killer

After Jimmy Kimmel Live! was briefly taken off the air following his comments about Charlie Kirk’s death, Erika Kirk passed along a message to the late night show via the Turning Point team.

“I said, ‘Tell them thank you, we received their note. This is not our issue, not our mess. If you want to say I’m sorry to someone who’s grieving, go right ahead. But if that’s not in your heart, don’t do it. I don’t want it. I don’t need it,’” she said.

What Erika Kirk Tells Her and Charlie Kirk’s Kids

Erika Kirk confessed that her daughter “continues to ask” where her father is and she tells her little one that Charlie Kirk is in “heaven.”

“She goes, ‘So does that mean he’s in a different house?’ And I said, ‘Yes, baby, he is building a house for us. Some people would say mansion.’” she recalled. “Children are so precious. I said, ‘Baby, we will all go one day. We will all go one day.’ It makes me speechless, because it’s for the kids, and that’s how I can keep telling the kids, ‘Daddy’s thinking about you and loves you and all these people.’”

Why Erika Kirk Forgave Charlie Kirk’s Alleged Murderer

Erika Kirk publicly forgave Tyler Robinson while eulogizing Charlie Kirk during his memorial service. Erika explained her reasoning.

“A lot of people in this world think that forgiveness is a weakness, or that when you forgive, you forget, and it’s the exact opposite, [it] is a form of freedom the enemy, the enemy stole my husband,” she admitted. “It’s more so for me than this man, because the enemy would have my heart, and I knew that every day The Lord forgives me for things so he forgives everybody else for things, small, big … it’s not easy. It never is easy, but it’s freeing. It’s so freeing. And again, it’s not a weakness, but it’s a way for me to be able to say, ‘You’ll never get me.’”

As for how Erika feels about Robinson potentially getting the death penalty, that is not a burden she wants to decide.

“I do not want this man’s blood on my ledger when I stand before the Lord,” she said “I want the government to decide it’s biblical too. Justice will ultimately be served.”

Erika Kirk Appreciates Vice President JD Vance’s Support

Erika Kirk expressed her gratitude toward JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, for how they’ve been by her side following Charlie Kirk’s death.

“They are the most incredible people with such genuine love,” she said of the couple. “Just everything they did for us was so humanized. I mean, they were there for us.”

How Erika Kirk Feels Continuing Charlie Kirk’s Tour

As Erika Kirk resumed Charlie Kirk’s college tour she shared that she feels safe because she feels her husband by her side. She added that Charlie would be impressed with what they’ve built.

“He’d be blown away,” she reflected. “He wanted his vision for these events was stadiums. He always wanted them to be massive, and he loved them being outside, of course.”

Nankhumwa challenges DPP to demonstrate “Proven Leadership” notion amid numerous crises

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Member of Parliament (MP) for Mulanje Central, Kondwani Nankhumwa, has called on the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leadership to demonstrate its capability by addressing the country’s pressing challenges, including the ongoing fuel crisis, water shortages, and other critical national issues.

Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, Nankhumwa emphasized the need for the government to take decisive action to ease the suffering of Malawians.

He said the current situation demands “proven leadership that delivers real solutions, not just promises.”

“The people of Malawi are looking to us for answers. We must show that we have the capacity and commitment to tackle these problems head-on,” Nankhumwa said.

The legislator urged the DPP leadership to rise to the occasion and provide tangible results, noting that citizens are losing patience with continued hardships.

Nankhumwa’s remarks come amid growing public frustration over persistent shortages of fuel ,water and daily blackouts which have disrupted daily life and economic activities across the country.
