A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Davao Occidental, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
The tremor occurred at 12:13 p.m., with its epicenter traced 118 kilometers (km) south 80° east of Sarangani Island in the municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental. It had a shallow depth of 10 km and was tectonic in origin.
Phivolcs reported Instrumental Intensity I in Alabel, Sarangani. This means that the tremor was scarcely perceptible.
As of writing, authorities have reported no damage although Phivolcs said that aftershocks are possible. /jpv
