The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) destroyed P16.08 billion worth of illegal drugs by burning them at a waste management facility in Trece Martires City, Cavite, on Thursday.
The drugs were seized in anti-drug operations and ordered destroyed by the courts handling their respective cases after serving as evidence, the PDEA said in a statement.
According to the agency, the destroyed drugs included:
2,336,482.63 grams of shabu (crystal meth)
529,906.12 grams of marijuana
3,067.69 grams of ecstasy
8,790.88 grams of cocaine
11,315.99 grams of ketamine
10,146.26 grams of nimetazepam, a hypnotic drug
41.56 grams of toluene, a clear liquid that occurs naturally in crude oil and the tolu tree
4.79 grams of opium poppy
0.58 grams of nitrazepam, another hypnotic drug
0.17 grams of diazepam, an anxiety medication
4,506.72 milliliters of liquid marijuana
851.13 milliliters of liquid shabu
8,760 milliliters of ephedrine, a stimulant; and
5,000 grams of assorted surrendered expired medicines
‘The destruction process is always done in full view of the public guided by the principle of transparency and accountability to address issues of drug recycling,’ PDEA Director-General Usec. Isagani Nerez said in the statement.
