26 inbound packages at Naia cargo facility yield P109.8-M worth of shabu

Twenty-six inbound packages at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) cargo facility were found to contain P109.8 million worth of shabu (crystal meth), the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said.

In a statement on Friday, BOC said the parcels were discovered in three styrofoam boxes declared as e-commerce packages arriving from Hanoi, Vietnam.

These items were flagged during an X-ray screening and were inspected early evening last Monday, leading to the discovery of 16,150 grams of a white crystalline substance, according to the bureau.

The substance was later confirmed to be shabu after field testing by the bureau’s drug task force and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

‘The two representatives of the consignee logistics company were arrested on site in violation of Republic Act No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002),’ the bureau said.

‘The case also constitutes violations of Republic Act No. 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act), particularly Section 1400 (Misdeclaration), Section 1401 (Unlawful Importation and Exportation), and Section 117 (Regulated Importation and Exportation),’ it added. /apl
