Another earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 struck the waters off Cagwait, Surigao del Sur, on Sunday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The earthquake was recorded at 2:56 p.m., originating 112 kilometers southeast of Cagwait, Phivolcs said.
Phivolcs also reported that the earthquake was tectonic in origin with a 12-kilometer depth of focus.
While there are no reported intensities, expected damage to infrastructure, or aftershocks, this is the second earthquake recorded near Surigao del Sur in the last 24 hours.
On Saturday evening, a stronger magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck the coast northeast of Cagwait, according to Phivolcs.
Several consecutive earthquakes have been reported all over the country in the last two weeks.
On October 10, a doublet earthquake with magnitudes 7.4 and 6.8 hit Davao Oriental, with over a thousand aftershocks recorded since.
Meanwhile, the number of aftershocks following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Cebu on September 30 has reached nearly 11,000, as of Saturday afternoon.
