Magnitude 2.9 earthquake hits San Jose, Romblon

A shallow magnitude 2.9 quake was recorded in San Jose, Romblon province, on Monday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

According to Phivolcs, the epicenter of the tectonic earthquake that occurred at 10:03 a.m. was located 16 kilometers northwest of the locality. It had a depth of focus of only 6 km.

A tectonic earthquake is produced by sudden movement along faults and plate boundaries.

Phivolcs said the tremor is not expected to cause damage or aftershocks
