Sulu province’s integration into the Zamboanga Peninsula region is progressing ‘seamlessly,’ the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said.
Sulu was transferred to the Zamboanga region through Executive Order No. 91 series of 2025 after the province voted against ratifying the Bangsamoro Organic Law, which establishes the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
‘The seamless transfer of the Province of Sulu to Zamboanga Peninsula is in progress,’ the DILG said in a statement on Tuesday.
‘During this transition, the government is committed to keeping public service uninterrupted while laying down a stronger foundation for good governance and local development in Sulu,’ it added.
EO No. 91 designated the DILG as the vice chairperson of the technical working group tasked to oversee the transition.
The DILG further said it will be issuing a joint memorandum circular with the Department of Budget and Management by the end of this October to address personnel management in Sulu.
Additionally, the DILG said the technical working group is considering asking the Office of the President for permission to allow the BARMM to continue implementing its programs and projects in Sulu until 2026.
