Marcy Teodoro brings 28 witnesses to DOJ in rape case defense

Rep. Marcy Teodoro (Marikina City, 1st District) filed his counter-affidavit before the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday, October 14, to contest complaints of rape and acts of lasciviousness filed against him by two female police officers who previously served as his security aides.

Teodoro appeared at the DOJ accompanied by 28 witnesses whom his camp said would disprove the allegations.

‘Inaasahan ko na lalabas ang katotohanan sa pamamagitan ng isang patas, transparent at bukas na preliminary investigation,’ Teodoro said. (I expect the truth to come out through a fair, transparent, and open preliminary investigation.)

His counsel, Alma Mallonga, said the witnesses were presented to show that the alleged incidents could not have occurred. She said complaints’ “incredible tale… could not have happened” as there was “no opportunity” for the alleged acts to take place.

She also said the complainants were ‘unwilling to answer’ questions from Teodoro’s camp.

‘Ayokong sabihin, kasi obvious naman, these are sham complaints as far as we are concerned, but the process is here,’ she added. (I don’t want to say it, because it’s obvious, but these are sham complaints as far as we are concerned, yet the process must be followed.)

Perjury complaint filed. A day before filing his counter-affidavit, Teodoro lodged a perjury complaint against the two policewomen before the Marikina City Prosecutor’s Office, claiming that their accusations were fabricated.

The DOJ earlier confirmed that the two officers had filed separate complaints against Teodoro in September, accusing him of rape and acts of sexual assault allegedly committed while they were assigned as his close-in security.

Next steps. The DOJ is expected to evaluate the counter-affidavit and witness statements as part of its preliminary investigation before deciding whether to elevate the case to court.
