Green logistics hub unveiled

DHL Supply Chain Thailand has invested 1.39 billion baht (pound 35 million) to set up the Bangna Sustainable Logistics Center, the first DHL supply chain facility worldwide to be fully powered by renewable energy from on-site solar systems.

The centre sets a new benchmark for future DHL Supply Chain operations and strengthens Thailand’s role as the region’s logistics hub, said Hendrik Venter, chief executive of DHL Supply Chain.

The centre operates entirely on renewable energy generated on-site, featuring a 4.2-megawatt-peak solar panel system that spans 24,000 square metres (the size of three soccer fields), supported by an advanced battery storage capacity of 10 MWh and smart energy management systems.

Mr Venter said the company’s first fully renewable energy warehouse reinforces its aspiration to be the green logistics operator of choice.

“The facility is a tangible step towards our net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050,” he said.

The company’s GoGreen Plus service offering enables customers to decarbonise their supply chains and track measurable progress towards their own sustainability goals.

Southeast Asia is a key growth region for DHL Group, and its investments reflect this conviction, said Mr Venter.

He said DHL’s GoGreen Plus service can cut businesses’ supply chain emissions.

The centre’s core warehouse operations are powered by on-site solar energy supported by battery storage.

Customers also benefit from electric vehicle (EV) transport, sustainable packaging options and hands-on support from DHL’s certified GoGreen specialists.

Javier Bilbao, chief executive at DHL Supply Chain Asia-Pacific, said Thailand is emerging as a dynamic trade hub in Southeast Asia, with its strong manufacturing base, modern infrastructure and supportive renewable energy policies.

Steve Walker, chief executive at DHL Supply Chain Thailand Cluster, said Thailand is emerging as a leader in sustainable logistics, and these new facilities, together with the company’s focus on EVs, show that environmental stewardship can go hand in hand with operational excellence.

“We built the new centre with our customers in mind, especially those in consumer, automotive, technology, engineering and manufacturing sectors that demand both agility and sustainability,” Mr Walker said.

By using solar power, energy storage and certified GoGreen specialists, he said the company delivers real value to customers while reinforcing Thailand’s role as Southeast Asia’s logistics hub, especially in automotive, electronics and e-commerce.

“This facility sets a new standard for future warehouses and reflects our confidence in Thailand’s economy, showing that growth and sustainability can go in conjunction,” Mr Walker said.

The centre is strategically located on Bang Na Trat KM20, 18 kilometres from Suvarnabhumi airport and 26km from Bangkok port. The centre spans more than 45,000 sq m across two warehouses.

The centre’s free trade zone status offers strong advantages for businesses looking to grow in the region.
