Bangkok United could only manage to claim a point from their trip to Muang Thong United as the Thai League 1 encounter ended in a goalless deadlock on Saturday night.
Hostilities in the top flight resumed after a two-week break to allow the Thai national team play their Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers against Taiwan. Thailand convincingly won both the home and away games.
The hosts, the Kirins, had early chances only to see Korawich Tasa and Purachate Todsanit send their efforts off target.
The Angels’ veteran striker Teerasil Dangda put the ball in the net in the 39th minute but his effort was ruled offside following a VAR review.
After the match, Bangkok United coach Totchtawan Sripan said: “We have always had a tough time at Muang Thong United. Last year, we missed the chance to pick up a point here so this time we have fared a bit better.
“We have five players who have just returned from national duty during the two-week Fifa break so we couldn’t use them fully.
“It is good that we did not concede a goal and next week we will have an AFC Champions League Two game as well.”
Muang Thong United coach Rangsan Viwatchaichok said: “This was a good game for us but we could not pick up three points as we wanted to. Bangkok United are a good team and my players did well against them.”
Meanwhile, hosts BG Pathum United edged top-flight first-timers Ayutthaya United 1-0 on Saturday night. Ekanit Panya scored the winning goal in the 15th minute of the match.
Pathum United interim coach Vladimir Vujovic said: “It is good that we won the match and pocketed three points from this game because for the past two weeks, the players had been practising the tactics we had worked out for them.
“We did well for 80 minutes but in the last 10 minutes, we missed a chance and were lucky to avoid getting punished for it.”
Also on Saturday night, Ratchaburi ran riot at home to hammer Lamphun Warriors 5-0, while hosts Nakhon Ratchasima lost 2-0 to Port.
