With her mother flying all the way from the United States to watch her play, Anna DeBeer delivered a 37-point explosion as ZUS Coffee stunned defending champion Creamlin in the PVL Reinforced Conference on Thursday.
Sara DeBeer made the trip from Louisville, Kentucky, to support her daughter in her first overseas stint.
‘I’m here to bring a little refreshments and a little bit of the USA here to the Philippines for her midway through this trip until she gets home. But more importantly, just to share in the experience with her and support her and her team,’ Sara told the reporters. ‘I’m here for a few weeks to catch some games and love the atmosphere of the arenas that we’re playing at and all the fans.’
Sara enjoyed her first PVL game as Anna led ZUS Coffee past the fan-favorite Cool Smashers, 25-27, 25-17, 25-20, 25-22, to stay unbeaten on top of Pool B at 3-0.

I mean, I know Anna loves playing with them and just playing with a new team,’ said DeBeer’s mother of ZUS Coffee.
The University of Louisville product was just as thrilled to have her mother in the crowd.
‘She is the best. She travels a lot and is always trying to find me and come out and support me for all my games. So to have her here and see a few games, so it’ll be nice the next few weeks she’ll be here, which is exciting,’ said Anna. ‘And just to have her here feels like a little piece of home away from home.’ DeBeer said she was proud to lead ZUS Coffee against a powerhouse Creamline squad backed by a loud crowd.
‘I knew that they were really good and had an amazing fan base, so I was kind of just focusing on that. They were really loud and I hadn’t really known that before,’ she said. ‘I think they’re never really out of it. No matter how much we felt like we were up by a few a little bit, they’re always creeping back in.’
‘I think we did a good job stopping those runs and then allowing ourselves a point score and trying to get a few ahead.’ DeBeer remains the league’s leading scorer with 92 points, including two 37-point outings-something that makes her mother even prouder.
‘This is just something she wanted to do – to experience life outside the United States and play internationally. I’m really proud of her for taking on this venture and learning a lot, practicing, getting some reps, and playing with some new teams. It’s been a great experience so far,’ said Sara.
