The reimagined production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ will take the stage in Manila in May as part of the legs of their international tour.
Theater production company GMG Productions announced the musical’s arrival in Manila in a press statement, where it will run from May 2 to 24 at The Theatre at Solaire in Parañaque.

According to GMG CEO Carlos Candal, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ is a musical that resonates with different generations.

Its music and story continue to inspire audiences, and we can’t wait for Filipino fans to experience this powerful production live,’ he said.
Further details on the cast, including its leads Jesus Christ, Judas Iscariot, Mary Magdalene, Pontius Pilate, Peter and Caiaphas are yet to be announced, as of this writing.
In a production led by London Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, Timothy Sheader will take charge as the director. The creative team is composed of Drew McOnie (choreographer), Tom Scutt (design), Lee Curran (lighting design), Nick Lidster (sound design), and Tom Deering (music supervision).
Loosely based on accounts in the gospel, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ tells the story of Jesus Christ and his disciples, with a special emphasis on the point of view of Judas Iscariot. It originally began as a concept album until it evolved into a full-blown rock opera musical that opened in 1971.
Aside from its hit songs ‘Superstar’ and ‘I Don’t Know How to Love Him,’ the musical earned several accolades throughout its run such as the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival and the 2016 Evening Standard Award for Best Musical.
