The Philippine women’s football team was held to a 2-2 draw by Uzbekistan after squandering a two-goal lead in a friendly match held Wednesday at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
It appeared that the Filipinas were on their way to victory after Chandler McDaniel scored barely 100 seconds into the match and Meryll Serrano doubled the lead before the hour mark.
But Uzbekistan wound up finding the back of the net twice, all from Diyorakhon Khabibullaeva, as coach Mark Torcaso’s side was left to ponder on the late miscues.
The friendly served as a build-up for the Filipinas’ campaigns in the Thailand Southeast Asian Games in December and the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, the qualifier for the 2027 Fifa Women’s World Cup.
Torcaso held a week-long camp prior to the friendly that was held during the current women’s international window.
McDaniel struck her fifth goal of the calendar year, and 12th while donning the Filipinas shirt with a close-range attempt that was set up from a throw-in.
Serrano scored in the 56th to make it nine goals in her Philippine account.
