Philippines chairs ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting

The Philippines has formally taken over the chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Defence Ministers’ Meeting and ADMM-Plus from Malaysia.

The ceremonial handover last Saturday at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre concluded Malaysia’s leadership of the 19th ADMM and 12th ADMM-Plus, and ushered in the Philippines’ chairmanship for 2026.

In his remarks, Defense

Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. said the Philippines ‘commits to working with ASEAN Member States and Dialogue Partners towards shared aspiration for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Southeast Asia and the broader Indo-Pacific region.’

He congratulated Malaysian Defense Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin, for his strong leadership and the ministry’s effective chairmanship.
