Several local government units in the Bicol region ordered pre-emptive evacuation and suspension of classes on Monday due to the effects of Typhoon Tino.
Masbate Gov. Richard Kho said all the local officials were advised to implement forced evacuation in low-lying and coastal areas on Monday afternoon.
Classes at all levels were suspended on Monday morning, while work in government offices was suspended at 1 p.m., except for those involved in the disaster response.
In Albay province, classes were also suspended in 14 towns and cities.
Gov. Noel Rosal also ordered all officials to prepare for the possible evacuation of residents in the high-risk areas.
He advised the public to avoid sailing and crossing swollen rivers.
Earlier, the Sorsogon province suspended classes at all levels due to the threat of storm surge and heavy rains.
Camarines Sur Gov. Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr. also ordered pre-emptive evacuation of residents in hazard-prone areas and forced evacuation in areas facing imminent threats.
He also advised on localized suspension of classes and work in local government offices when necessary.
In Catanduanes, classes were also suspended in the towns of Viga, Bagamanoc, Gigmoto, and Panganiban.
In the 2 p.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Tino maintains its strength as it moves westward over the Philippine Sea, with sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 150 kph.
