Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 is now raised over two areas in Mindanao as Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi) maintained its strength while continuing to move westward towards the country on Monday afternoon, the state weather bureau said.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Tino was last spotted 235 kilometers (km) east-southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, while moving westward at 25 km per hour (kph).
The typhoon currently carries maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.
‘On the forecast track, Tino will move generally westward for the next 24 hours and may make its initial landfall over the vicinity of the southern portion of Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, or Dinagat Islands tonight (Monday) or tomorrow (Tuesday) early morning,’ said Pagasa in its latest typhoon bulletin.
‘Afterwards, Tino will traverse Visayas and northern Palawan before emerging over the West Philippine Sea on Wednesday afternoon,’ it added.
Tino is then forecast to remain a typhoon until it exits the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday morning.
