A church treasurer was shot Thursday morning, police said.
The incident happened inside the compound of the Seventh-day Adventist Church along Licoan Road in Barangay Puntod.
The victim, identified as Benjamin Mendez, was rushed to a nearby hospital. His current condition is not yet known as of this posting.
Police have cordoned off the area near the church compound with crime scene tape as personnel gathered evidence.
Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots.
Mendez’s son, Jediah Mendez, confirmed to Magnum Radyo that his father had previously received death threats from the suspect, whom he said is a fellow church member.
The younger Mendez said his father even filed a legal complaint against the suspect.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene in his Toyota Vios car but surrendered to the office of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
Police authorities have yet to name the suspect who is now in their custody.
