President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday visited Liloan town and Talisay City in Cebu to oversee the distribution of assistance to those affected by Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi).
Liloan is among the areas hardest hit by the typhoon, with numerous casualties and widespread damage reported, according to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).
Tiltilon Elementary School in Barangay Cotcot, the first stop of Marcos’ visit to the province, currently serves as an evacuation center for 126 families, or 509 individuals.
‘During his visit, President Marcos distributed family food packs, health kits, hygiene kits, and sleeping kits from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The DSWD also provided hot meals to evacuees staying at the school,’ the PCO said in a press release.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) in Central Visayas conducted a rapid health assessment at the evacuation center.

It also provided free medical consultations and medicines, including maintenance drugs, antibiotics, doxycycline for leptospirosis prevention, and anti-tetanus vaccines for those with injuries.
Furthermore, the DOH-Central Visayas carried out a water, sanitation, and hygiene assessment to ensure that evacuees have access to safe and clean drinking water.
‘The DOH also monitors the condition of children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers in the evacuation center to ensure they receive adequate nutrition, including a sufficient supply of breast milk for babies,’ the PCO said.
After his visit to Liloan, Marcos proceeded to the Talisay Sports Academy in Talisay City, where he led the distribution of aid to displaced residents.
As of the morning of November 7, the death toll from Typhoon Tino has risen to 188, with 135 others missing and 96 injured, according to Office of Civil Defense deputy spokesperson Diego Mariano.
Cebu accounted for 139 fatalities, while the remaining deaths were reported in Cebu province (24), Negros Occidental (24), Negros Oriental (9), Agusan del Sur (6), Capiz (3), Southern Leyte (2), and one each in Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, Bohol, and Leyte.
