No major damage to airports has been reported following the onslaught of Typhoon Tino, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) said on Wednesday.
In a statement, Caap said that based on initial reports, only minor structural damage was observed in several airports in areas affected by the weather disturbance.
The aviation authority reported that the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Station of the San Vicente Airport in Palawan suffered from flooding.
The terminal building roof of Borongan Airport in Eastern Samar sustained minor damage, while the pre-departure area entrances of the Hilongos Airport in Leyte reported a broken glass door and ceiling damage.
A minor gutter and roofing issue was recorded at the Guiuan Airport in Eastern Samar, Caap also said.
Nonetheless, the aviation authority said ‘no major infrastructure damage or aviation-related incidents were reported.’
Caap Director Retired Lt. Gen. Raul del Rosario noted that the agency has already deployed personnel on the ground ‘to assess any damaged facilities and ensure immediate repair actions.’ ‘We are also closely coordinating with our area managers for timely updates and swift responses,’ del Rosario said.
Caap said it remains in coordination with local government units and partner agencies to ensure the safety and security of all the passengers.
Earlier on Wednesday, Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez ordered all its regional offices and attached agencies to complete the damage assessment of transportation facilities in areas hit by Typhoon Tino within 48 hours.
