Four towns in Aurora province have been isolated after landslides amid the onslaught of Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-wong), the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said on Monday.
Uwan whipped many parts of Luzon over the weekend, leaving at least two individuals dead, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The affected municipalities were Casiguran, Dilasag, Dinalungan and Dipaculao, according to OCD Assistant Secretary Rafael Alejandro IV in a briefing in Camp Aguinaldo on Monday.
‘The four municipalities are isolated because of landslides,’ he noted.
‘Earlier this morning as well, we ordered the (local government units or) LGUs to immediately help the DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) to clear these and reach them and establish communication,’ he added. ‘We expect to reach them within the day.’
Uwan made landfall as a super typhoon over Dinalungan, Aurora on Sunday night.
The tropical cyclone weakened into a typhoon on Monday morning.
Uwan was last spotted 135 kilometers (km) west-northwest of Bacnotan, La Union at 10 a.m. on Monday, according to the latest update by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
The typhoon was packing maximum sustained winds of up to 130 km per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 160 kph while moving west-northwest at 20 kph.
