The Philippine National Railways has temporarily suspended railway operations starting Monday, Nov. 10, due to damage to tracks and other infrastructure caused by Typhoon Uwan, PNR general manager Deovanni Miranda announced.
Miranda told the Inquirer in a Viber message on Monday that initial inspections showed some stretches of submerged and eroded tracks.
He said a railway bridge in Guinobatan, Albay, was also twisted after its foundation was eroded and damaged by floodwaters.
He added that daily trips from Camarines Sur to Albay and vice versa will be suspended for ‘more or less two months’ while repairs and restoration works are ongoing.
Miranda said the total cost of the damage has yet to be determined, as validation and detailed assessment will commence soon.
PNR maintenance teams and engineers have been deployed to inspect and repair affected segments.
‘Operations will resume once the tracks are cleared and deemed safe. Passengers are advised to monitor official advisories for updates,’ Miranda said.
