The Acting Secretary General of the House of Representatives, Panicos Pourgourides, met with the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Despina Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis, on the sidelines of PACE’s Committee on Rules of Procedure, Immunities and Institutional Affairs meeting, hosted by the House of Representatives on 13 and 14 November in Limassol.
According to a House statement, during the meeting, Pourgourides warmly congratulated Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis on her re-election as Secretary General of the Assembly, and extended his sincere thanks for the Assembly’s long-standing support and its consistent principled stance towards the Republic of Cyprus, praising Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis’s contribution to the promotion of democratic principles, the rule of law, and respect for human rights.
It is added that for her part, Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis thanked the House of Representatives for hosting the meeting of the Committee on Rules of Procedure, Immunities and Institutional Affairs in Limassol, stressing that cooperation between PACE and national parliaments is essential, mutually beneficial, and strengthens inter-parliamentary dialogue in Europe.
She also expressed her deep appreciation for the members of the Cypriot delegation to PACE who, as she noted, have on several occasions assumed important positions within the Assembly and participate actively and constructively in its work, guided by the Organisation’s principles and values.
