Deputy Minister of Migration to pay Brussels a working visit, meet with Commissioner Brunner

Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection, Dr Nicholas A. Ioannides will pay Brussels a working visit, during which he will hold a meeting on Wednesday with EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner, in the context of the preparations for the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union that will begin in January 2026.

According to a press release by the Deputy Ministry, on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, the Deputy Minister will have a private meeting with Commissioner Brunner, with the aim of coordinating the implementation of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum, as well as issues related to the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU.

During his stay in Brussels, he will also participate in the Cyprus Forum Brussels, which will take place at the European Parliament. The Deputy Minister will deliver the keynote speech in a debate entitled ‘Migration: Implementing the Pact on Asylum and Migration’, which will examine the importance of the Pact as a step towards a more unified European approach, while highlighting the experience of Cyprus as a front line state facing significant migratory pressures. The challenges of unequal burden-sharing among Member States will also be discussed and the new tools of the Pact, in particular those related to strengthening solidarity, will be presented.

The Deputy Minister will also participate in an information breakfast with journalists accredited to the EU, whom he will inform about the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency in the field of migration, the press release concludes.
