MANILA, Philippines — Junrey Dugaduga ruled the 3rd MGB (Miguel G. Belmonte) Chess Cup held recently at The Philippine STAR headquarters in Parañaque.
Dugaduga of Pilipino Star Printing Inc. and sports scribe Joey Villar finished tied for first with perfect five points each but the former took first place with a higher tiebreak score.
It was the second title for Dugaduga, who also topped the second edition.
For Villar, it was his second runner-up finish. Later on, he defeated Dugaduga in a special two-game blitz, 1.5-.5.
No less than The STAR CEO Miguel G. Belmonte and chief finance officer Carlos Dizon were there to award the winners.
Belmonte’s son, Santi, finished third overall and the best intermediate player with four points.
