Kawempe Muslim have yet another tricky trip to Masindi on Sunday that could have a telling impact in their bid to win the 2025/26 Finance Trust Bank Fufa Women Super League (FTBFWSL) title.
Kawempe last beat Lady Doves in Masindi in March 2022. For the last three seasons, the home team in this fixture has always won.
However, the leaders (19 points in seven matches) still won the title in the 2023/24 season despite a 3-2 loss to Doves in the run-in at the time. So, any result will not change the ambitions for the season but a loss could make things harder.
Kawempe is full of confidence because they have performed better this term in all fixtures where they dropped points last season.
A 4-1 home loss to Kampala Queens (KQ) last season was bettered with a 1-all draw this season while a 2-1 home loss to She Maroons in February was bettered with a 2-0 win at the start of this month.
A 0-0 away draw with Olila and a 1-1 home draw with Amus last season became 3-1 and 2-1 wins respectively this season. A 1-1 away draw with She Corporate also became a 2-0 win this season.
“We learnt from our mistakes and now know what to do to win in those fixtures,” Kawempe captain Agnes Nabukenya, said when asked for the secret sauce.
“You cannot also underestimate the impact of the new players we brought in. They want to win and have helped us a big deal,” Nabukenya added.
The eighth-placed Doves, on six points, will also have the right confidence coming into the fixture as they earned their first win of the season last weekend in a home 3-1 win over Asubo.
Tricky Maroons
Kawempe play 24 hours after their main rivals KQ – now two points behind – travel to Luzira to meet 6th-placed She Maroons (eight points). The latter lost their first four meetings with KQ in the 2022/23 and 2024/25 seasons. However, last season, they took two points off KQ.
KQ are scoring better this term with 18 goals in their first seven matches as compared to seven by the same point last season – or 14 in similar fixtures last season.
Elsewhere on Saturday, 10th-placed Uganda Martyrs Lubaga host bottom-placed Olila High School (three points) in a fixture, where the home side has always won. Only two points separate the sides.
The promoted sides Asubo Ladies and St. Noa Girls also meet at the former’s home at Kampala Quality Grounds. The sides last met in May in their promotional final to determine the champion of the second tier Elite League (FTBFWEL). St. Noa won 1-0 but despite losing lead striker Sylvia Kabene, they sit 4th on nine points – five more than Asubo in 11th.
Meanwhile in Kachumbala on Sunday, Amus College will hope to continue their topflight dominance over Makerere University. Amus, who were debutants then, won the two league meetings between the sides last season.
To close it out, She Corporate host Rines SS at Fufa Technical Centre, Njeru.
This is another fixture where no team loses at homes. But before Corporate were relegated for the 2023/24 season, Rines got two draws at the former’s home then (Makerere University Business School – Nakawa) – including in the 2022 season in which Corporate won the league.
The sides also used to enjoy a good relationship too as Rines was among the sides that “loaned” players to She Corporate, on double licence, for the aforementioned 2023/24 season in the second tier.
