Farouk Tumwesigye stole the show on Friday night, scoring a hat-trick as Mengo City brushed aside Kisenyi 4-1 in the headline fixture of the Futsal Super League at Old Kampala.
The striker’s three-goal haul takes his season tally to six, keeping him at the summit of the scorers’ chart.
It took Mengo City 11 minutes to break the deadlock in a cagey first half, with Tumwesigye firing home after a tense opening. He doubled the advantage two minutes later, sending Mengo City into the break with a commanding 2-0 lead.
On the resumption, Tumwesigye completed his hat-trick before Abdulkarim Tebera capped a fine team move to make it 4-0. Tonny Jumba’s 39th-minute strike offered Kisenyi only a consolation, leaving the struggling side still without a point after three rounds.
Debutants Lamansia suffered a harsh lesson in their 6-0 thrashing at the hands of a rampant QC Mbarara. Owen Robben gave QC an early lead after seven minutes, and Eria Kabagambe added a second in the 18th minute.
Shafiq Mulangira’s strike just after the break put the game beyond doubt, with Umar Niyosima and Vincent Abigaba netting two quick goals before Daniel Ebedu rounded off the rout.
QC Mbarara head coach Martin Mpuga praised his side.
‘I’m proud of the way the boys executed our game plan. Our focus, discipline and finishing made the difference. We must now build on this performance,’ he said.
Mengo City sit atop the men’s league table with nine points. Three teams remain unbeaten, including Old Kampala and Kabowa Dream Team, while Kisenyi languish at the bottom.
In women’s action, Nansana ASKA overcame Kabowa Dream Team 3-1. Elizabeth Ampereza, Birungi Nabwami, and Flavia Namubiru scored for ASKA, with Maria Nassimbwa replying for Kabowa. In another tight contest, Grameen edged Kabowa 1-0.
Mbarara QC and Entebbe Cheetahs share the lead in the women’s standings with six points each after three rounds.
