The Office of the Ombudsman has urged law enforcement agencies to immediately carry out the arrest warrants issued against former Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co and 17 other officials accused in connection with the alleged anomalous flood control projects.
The anti-graft body released the statement on Friday afternoon, shortly after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that the Sandiganbayan had already issued warrants of arrest against Co and the other respondents.
‘The Office of the Ombudsman welcomes the issuance of warrants of arrest against Zaldy Co and the 17 other accused in the corruption cases filed before the Sandiganbayan last Tuesday,’ the Ombudsman said.
‘To the law enforcement agencies whose responsibility it is to effect the arrests – execute the warrants without delay. Ensure their immediate arrest and bring them before the bar of justice,’ it added.
Co and several former Department of Public Works and Highways officials, and executives of Sunwest Corporation were among those covered by the arrest warrants, according to the president.
‘There is already a warrant of arrest against Zaldy Co and 17 others from the DPWH and Sunwest Corporation,’ Marcos said on his social media account.
‘So to our law enforcement agencies, let’s not delay this any longer. Arrest them now. Make sure this is carried out quickly and correctly. The wheels of justice are now turning.’
