Twice’s Chaeyoung diagnosed with vasovagal syncope, to sit out group activities

Chaeyoung of the K-pop girl group Twice will sit out all group activities until the end of the year, after being diagnosed with vasovagal syncope, her agency announced.

JYP Entertainment said in a statement on Thursday, Nov. 20, that Chaeyoung recently underwent medical examinations after experiencing health concerns and was advised to rest.

‘Chaeyoung was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope and, after further evaluations and medical consultations, it was concluded that she needs more time for recovery,’ the statement read.

‘She will pause her activities through the end of the year to prioritize her health. We ask for fans’ kind understanding,’ it added.

JYPE said the singer will not participate in the upcoming stops of TWICE’s ‘This Is for’ world tour, including shows in Kaohsiung, Hong Kong and Bangkok. She is also expected to be absent from certain fan events and promotional commitments.

Mayo Clinic defines vasovagal syncope as a condition in which a person suddenly faints due to a brief drop in heart rate and blood pressure. It can be triggered by stress, pain, standing for long periods, or emotional stimuli.

According to health experts, the episode is usually short and recovery is generally manageable with rest and medical guidance.

Chaeyoung’s absence comes as Twice continues its world tour celebrating the group’s 10th year. The tour, which kicked off mid-2025 alongside the release of their fourth full-length album ‘This Is for,’ has been drawing large crowds across Asia and other regions.

The group recently held shows in Southeast Asia, with some performances already staged without Chaeyoung as she began stepping back from schedules in late October. She last appeared in the Manila show last Oct. 4.
