’Reply 1988′ cast reunites for 10th anniversary special set for December

The stars of the beloved K-drama ‘Reply 1988’ – including Hyeri, Park Bo-gum, Go Kyung-pyo, Sung Dong-il, and Lee Il-hwa – will reunite for a 10th anniversary special which is set to air on December 19.

South Korean cable network tvN revealed a teaser of the ‘Reply 1988’ 10th anniversary special on its social media platforms on Monday, December 1, showing the cast recreating the K-drama’s poster.

The teaser is a nod to the drama’s original poster which includes the banner, ‘We hear. We reply. Longing replies,’ in Korean.

The cast included in the revived poster are Hyeri, Park, Go, Sung, Lee, Ra Mi-ran, Kim Sung-kyun, Choi Moo-sung, Kim Sun-young, Yoo Jae-myung, Ryu Hye-young, Ahn Jae-hong, Lee Dong-hwi, Choi Sung-won, and Lee Min-ji.

‘Your longing echoes reached us and the ‘Reply 1988′ family has responded,’ tvN said in the caption. TvN also uploaded a teaser clip of the cast gathering for the photoshoot on its YouTube channel. They are also set to go on a one-day, two-night trip to honor ‘Reply 1988’s’ legacy.

One of the K-drama’s lead stars Ryu Jun-yeol was notably absent from the poster and teaser shoot, although tvN confirmed that the actor would be present, albeit his scenes filmed separately.

Hyeri and Ryu – who met on the set of thw drama – were notably in a long-term relationship, however, their split was announced in November 2023. Months later, Ryu was accused of allegedly leading Hyeri on that they have a chance to reconcile after he was spotted with actress Han So-hee.

‘Reply 1988’ premiered in November 2015 as the third installment to the ‘Reply’ drama series. It tells the story of five childhood friends and their families living together in an alley in Seoul’s Ssangmun-dong district in the 1980s and 1990s.

Directed by Shin Won-ho, the drama received critical acclaim and widespread success after its release. It was also the highest rating cable drama of tvN at the time and was considered a ‘national drama’ in South Korea.
