Omonoia Nicosia secures 22nd Cyprus Football League title

Omonoia Nicosia secured the 22nd league title in their history on Saturday evening, beating Aris by 3-0 at the GSP Stadium to win the Cyprus League by Stoiximan race with four match days to spare.

The result confirmed the club’s return to the top place in Cypriot football after five years.

Celebrations errupted after the final whistle and later continued at the club’s headquarters on Papanikoli Street, Nicosia, where fans gathered to welcome the team.

‘I’m very happy for the Omonoia supporters. We waited five years and achieved this in a very convincing way,’ club president Stavros Papastavrou said.

‘Our next big target is the Champions League league phase. It won’t be easy, but we’ll do our best’, he added.

Head coach Henning Berg said the title was the result of a collective effort. ‘It was a team job from everyone, staff and players. We’re happy to be champions; we’ll look at Europe later.’

He added that ‘the president laid the foundations, while Simos Tarapoulouzis is doing an excellent job, many people contribute every day.’

Omonoia Nicosia will represent Cyprus in the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League.
