Candidates wishing to become representatives of Cyprus’ religious groups declared officially their bid on Wednesday to the Interior Ministry for the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for May 24, 2026.
According to the submissions, two candidates are contesting the seat representing the Maronite religious group, namely Marios Mavridis and Petros Nakouzis. Antonella Lydia Mantovani is the sole candidate for the Latin religious group, while incumbent Vartkes Mahdessian submitted his candidacy for the Armenian religious group.
Speaking during the submission process, Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Elikkos Elia said that candidacies were being filed for representatives of the Maronite, Armenian and Latin religious groups in view of the May 24 elections.
Elia noted that there are two candidates for the Maronite seat, one candidate for the Latin group and one for the Armenian group.
He added that if no additional candidacies are submitted by the deadline at 12:30 p.m., and provided no objections are lodged within 24 hours, the candidates without opponents will be declared elected.
