The Nigerian Medical Association has announced a change in its leadership, stating that Dr. B.K.S. Saheed is no longer the chairman of the association’s Lagos chapter.
In a statement issued on Monday, the association said the decision was taken during an Emergency General Meeting held on April 18, 2026, at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Lagos.
According to the statement, members of the Congress of the association resolved that Saheed should cease to hold office following deliberations on issues brought before the meeting.
The association said the decision was reached through procedures conducted in line with its constitution and regulations.
It added that Saheed no longer has the mandate to act or represent the Lagos branch of the association in any official capacity.
The association also advised institutions, stakeholders, government agencies, and members of the public to direct official engagements concerning the Lagos branch to the current leadership.
It announced that Dr. Ewonowo Temidire Sunday, who previously served as the First Vice Chairman, has assumed office as chairman in accordance with the association’s rules.
The new leadership reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare and professional interests of doctors in Lagos State.
The association said it was engaging relevant authorities on issues affecting members, including concerns over the harassment and assault of doctors in some health facilities.
It condemned violence against healthcare workers and pledged support for affected members while seeking measures to prevent similar incidents.
The statement also noted that discussions were ongoing with relevant institutions over salary delays and unpaid entitlements affecting doctors in some centres across the state.
It added that engagements were underway to address the concerns and improve members’ welfare.
The statement was signed by Sunday and the association’s secretary, Dr. O.J. Hassan.
