It is true Peace Kabasweka has done it all in the amateur level of women’s golf in Uganda. However, even as she dreams for more in the sport, Kabasweka is finding superlatives.
On Saturday, she sealed a hat-trick of titles by winning the Namulonge Ladies Open at the Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Club.
Unlike in 2025 where she won with 15-stroke margin, Kabasweka this time only beat the field by two shots to conquer the 54-hole contest with an aggregate score of 229 gross at the par-70 course.
‘First of all, I would like to thank God for this championship. We didn’t start well, so I would like to thank God that we did better,’ Kabasweka described her rounds of 77, 79 and 73.
She edged Judith Komugisha, who returned an identical three rounds of seven-over 77 for a score of 231 gross at the event bankrolled by KaChain Logistics, Munig Engineering, Pepsi, Equity Bank and Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU).
A field of 140 competitors took part in Namulonge, much to lady captain Sheila Aine’s delight.Last year, Kabasweka beat Meron Kyomugisha with a significant margin.
‘I would like to thank my caddie, Ian Araali, he has been on my bag since I started golf,’ Kabasweka said in her victory speech.
‘To my sponsor Munig, he is the reason I am here. Thank you so much Gerald, he is the reason I am here. To Judith and Meron, hard luck. Judith, thank you for giving me a good game. The course wasn’t easy because they changed a few holes,’ she added.
Kabasweka wobbled in the opening round with a triple bogey on the par-5 Hole No.5, six bogeys and the two birdies on Holes par-4s No.10 and No.15 only saved the score to 77. However, Kyomugisha, who had carded 75, held a two-shot lead over Kabasweka and Komugisha.
On Day Two, Kabasweka was chasing Komugisha by two shots after carding 79.She only had one birdie at the par-4 Hole No.17, three bogeys, three double-bogeys on par-4 Holes No.1 and No.7 and the par-3 No.11.
In the final round, Kabasweka produced a stellar finish with an eagle on par-4 Hole No.18 and a birdie on par-4 Hole No.3 to temporarily mute bogeys in a round of three-over 73 but more importantly, edge Komugisha.
The handicap two player is using the next events as a build-up to the 112th Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship to be played July 20-24 at the historic Toronto Golf Club.
