Police officer killed by mob in Nakapiripirit after traffic incident

Police in the Mt Moroto region are investigating the killing of one of their own in a mob attack in Nakapiripirit District on Tuesday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Richard Nokrach, 31, attached to Namalu Police Station, according to Mt Moroto police spokesperson Mike Longole.

The incident occurred at Nalait Trading Centre in Loporet Parish, Kawach sub-county, around 7:00pm. Longole said initial reports indicate that Nokrach was returning from Moru-A-Jore Game Reserve Checkpoint when he knocked an elderly man at the trading centre.

‘Relatives of the man allegedly attacked him and stabbed him multiple times in the chest, back, and neck. He died at the scene,’ Longole said.

The case was reported at Nakapiripirit Central Police Station at about 1900hrs and registered as CRB 064/2026.

After receiving the report, the District Police Commander, District CID Officer, SOCO team, and other officers visited the scene.

‘Statements have been recorded from witnesses, and the body was conveyed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examination,’ Longole said.

Two male suspects have since been arrested and are being held at Nakapiripirit CPS as investigations continue.

Longole condemned mob justice and urged the public to let the law take its course.

‘We urge members of the public to allow the law to take its course and to report incidents to the nearest police station instead of taking matters into their own hands,’ he said.
