The creation of modern school infrastructure, the upgrading of learning and sports facilities, and the renovation of historic buildings while respecting their architectural and historical identity constitute yet another tangible demonstration that the state is making a meaningful investment in education, President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, said on Friday evening during his address marking the 100th anniversary of the Saint Anthony Primary School in Nicosia.
For the Government, President Christodoulides continued, ‘expenditure on Education, Health, and the Welfare State is viewed as an investment in our country’s future and not as a cost or a mere accounting exercise. It is precisely within this framework, and based on our policy approach, which places people at the center of our policies, that we are making substantial investments in initiatives of significant educational value.’
He also expressed satisfaction with the fulfillment of government commitments, such as the upgrading of primary education schools. In this context, he noted that a few days ago the Cabinet decided to establish an additional 60 Optional All-Day Schools, bringing the total number across Cyprus to 378 from September onward.
‘With the expansion of the all-day school program, our children are given the opportunity to engage in meaningful and creative activities until the afternoon, something which undoubtedly, among many other benefits, also supports their families. Beyond the numerical increase in all-day schools, the quality of the programs offered is of utmost importance to us,’ he emphasized.
