EP recommendations on healthcare will be taken into account, Minister says

Minister of Health Neophytos Charalambides held on Friday a meeting with Cypriot MEP Loukas Fourlas, who is the rapporteur of the European Parliament’s Report on the healthcare workforce crisis.

According to a press release by the Ministry of Health, during the meeting, the Minister received the Report that was prepared jointly by the Health and Employment Committees of the European Parliament and will be brought to the EP Plenary for a vote in September.

The press release notes that the Report places particular emphasis on the need to adopt effective policies to attract and retain human resources, improve working conditions and create incentives for specialized health professionals to return to the sector.

It says that during the meeting held in the presence of Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Elisabeth Constantinou, Fourlas presented the main conclusions and recommendations of the Report.

It is added that the Report highlights the challenges facing health systems in the European Union due to the lack of health professionals.

The Minister of Health stated that the conclusions and recommendations of the Report will be duly utilized and will be taken into account in the planning and implementation of policies concerning the health sector and its human resources.
