Police have arrested five suspects and recovered dozens of computer components during investigations into a break-in at Buwambo Seed Secondary School in Wakiso District, where thieves stole computer equipment valued at about Shs60 million.
According to police, unknown assailants broke into the school’s computer laboratory in the early hours of June 18 after cutting through the perimeter fence.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects gained access to the premises at around 2 a.m. and stole four HP server central processing units (CPUs), causing losses estimated at Shs60 million.
Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said detectives from Matuga Police Station launched investigations and traced the movements of the suspects, leading to the impounding of a motorcycle believed to have been used during the theft.
Police subsequently arrested two suspects, whose interrogation led investigators to locations in Kampala where some of the stolen equipment had allegedly been sold.
‘On June 23, 2026, a police team conducted an operation at E-Tower along Kampala Road, where 15 computer CPUs, nine UPS units and 11 HP monitors suspected to be stolen property were recovered,’ Owoyesigyire said.
He added that additional computer accessories were recovered from other premises linked to the investigation.
‘A total of five suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the theft and recover more stolen property,’ he said.
Police did not immediately disclose the identities of the suspects, citing ongoing investigations.
The recovery comes amid growing concern over thefts targeting schools and institutions. Investigations are ongoing.
