Ahead of the 2027 General Election, Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has declared his support for the second-term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the gubernatorial ambition of Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.
In what can be described as a public declaration of peace and a total cessation of political hostilities in the state, Governor Fubara stated that as a loyal member of the APC, he has joined the Rainbow Coalition-a political alliance formed by his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, to advance the interests of the ruling party in Rivers State.
Governor Fubara made his position known on Wednesday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Riven Medical Industries Project in Port Harcourt.
He disclosed that the hitherto contending political forces in the state have resolved their differences and committed to working together for the peace and development of Rivers State.
It will be recalled that Governor Fubara, who had been locked in a political feud with Chief Nyesom Wike and members of the State House of Assembly loyal to the Minister since 2023, withdrew from the APC governorship primary in May after initially purchasing expression of interest and nomination forms, thereby paving the way for Chinda’s emergence as the party’s flag bearer.
Governor Fubara charged his supporters across the state to put the past behind them and join him in supporting President Tinubu, Chinda, and all other APC candidates in Rivers State during the upcoming general elections.
He said, ‘We have made peace in the state, and I am supporting our Rainbow Coalition. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is our president, and he is the one we are supporting. O.K. Chinda is the governorship candidate that I am supporting, and anybody who believes in me will support him and every other candidate under the Rainbow Coalition.
‘I’ve gone back to our family. So please, whoever you are, give your total support to the Rainbow Coalition. We need to move forward. The time for war is over. It is time for peace, and this peace is taking us to another level.
‘I want this to be clear to everybody. So don’t go anywhere saying you’re supporting Fubara. No, no, no. My position is clear, and I have stated it here for everyone to hear. If you’re not hearing well, use cotton wool to clean your ears so it sinks in properly. I am not party to anything that will bring any form of disunity to this state. I’ve done what I need to do, and we are moving forward.’
