’Red Alert’ issued for forest fires breaking out and spreading risk on Tuesday

The Department of Forests has warned the public that the risk of forest fires breaking out and spreading on Tuesday, has been upgraded from ‘Extremely High’ to ‘Red Alert’ level.

In a press release it is emphasised that, in accordance with the Forests Law and the Law on the Prevention and Extinction of Fires in Open Country, causing a fire constitutes an offence punishable by severe penalties.

An appeal is also made to the public to be particularly careful during their outings, completely avoiding any actions or activities that might cause a fire.

In case smoke or a fire is spotted, the public is urged to call 1407 (Forest Department) or 112 (Fire Service) immediately, the statement concludes.
