The National Reconciliation Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the crisis in Anambra State on Tuesday tasked all stakeholders of the party in Anambra State to sheathe their swords and work in unity and peace towards the re-election project of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu come the 2027 general elections.
It said that only in an atmosphere of peace and unity, and not crisis, can the party win elections for both the presidency and other levels during next year’s polls.
Dr. Benjamin Obi Nwoye, Deputy National Chairman (South) of the APC and head of the five-man reconciliation committee deployed to the state from Abuja, stated this while addressing the party stakeholders’ engagement on domesticating peace at the grassroots.
This is as there was wild jubilation by members of the state chapter of the APC who converged on the venue of the meeting as the committee chairman displayed a copy of the Federal High Court judgment which granted a stay of execution to the Senator Emma Anosike-led executive.
Members of the committee were inaugurated on July 21, 2026, to reconcile all aggrieved members of the APC in the state following the suspension of some members of the party by the Senator Emma Anosike-led executive.
The committee had, before arrival in Anambra for the stakeholders’ engagement meeting, met with the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah.
Dr. Nwoye enumerated the efforts made by the committee in Abuja to bring all the warring groups together, aimed at ensuring that peace prevails and that both sides sheathe their swords so that the state stabilises towards a hitch-free election next year.
He noted that the party cannot go to the polls as a divided body, as doing so would not achieve victory for the fold.
According to Nwoye, ‘peace is not weakness; it is strategic strength. A united party can register voters, mobilize polling units, support the Renewed Hope Agenda, prepare credible candidates and compete seriously. A divided party cannot.’
‘The importance of this engagement, therefore, is to heal wounds and mobilize in unity for the election of Mr. President and all candidates of our great party.’
‘Anambra State must not allow itself to remain divided while the opposition takes advantage of our disunity to hold power in the state.’
He warned that the costly mistakes of the last general elections must not repeat themselves; ‘this time, we must organize early, speak with one voice, protect our structures and march together as one family.’
Nwoye said that the committee has taken note of the verified roots of the crisis, which he assured must be addressed honestly if peace is to endure.
He listed the issues to include allegations regarding elected party officials at different levels, removal of names of persons who won primary elections and their replacement with persons who allegedly did not participate in or win the process, resort to court without due process or exhaustion of internal grievance mechanisms, and expulsion of party leaders and members without fair hearing.
‘These concerns go to the heart of justice, confidence and party discipline, and they must be treated with fairness, transparency and respect for the Constitution of our great party,’ Nwoye said.
‘We cannot allow anyone to sabotage our efforts,’ he added, assuring that at the end of the interface, the views of aggrieved members would also be mainstreamed to the National Working Committee for an all-inclusive resolution and decision that would give every party tendency and faction a pride of place.
‘The outcome of these meetings must be seen as a joint decision involving us all. Your inputs are highly valued and I urge every stakeholder to abide eventually by the final verdict or resolution, so that lasting peace can return to our fold in Anambra APC,’ he added.
The State Chairman of the APC, Senator Emma Anosike, in his speech, pledged to ensure the re-election victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu come next year.
He told the committee that, ‘We will go back to the drawing board and tinker with whatever we are going to tinker, and bring everybody on board.’
‘We will do everything possible to ensure President Tinubu wins the 2027 general elections in Anambra State,’ he assured.
Speakers at the parley called on the committee to ensure genuine peace and reconciliation of both sides so that the party would go to the polls as a united front.
The immediate past state chairman of the party, Chief Basil Ejidike, said, ‘None of the two groups in the crisis can win elections. They should come together, they should be blended to bring the party together.’
The Deputy National Secretary of the APC, Abdulkareem Abubakar Kama (SAN), said the party would not leave anybody behind, particularly the South-East geopolitical zone, in its efforts to unite the country and ensure the victory of President Tinubu come next year’s poll.
He assured the stakeholders that the party has seen what happened to other parties, adding that part of the committee’s recommendation would be to ensure that Anambra is patronised in more available ways.
The party’s National Woman Leader, Dr. Mrs Mary Irile, said the general election is about six months away, and therefore there is an urgent need for members in the state to drop their grievances and work together towards the success of President Tinubu and others jostling for the polls.
‘We are here for a serious matter. There is fire on the mountain and that’s why we are here and we want to solve the problem. The party cannot be hell bound but if we come together, respect one another; everyone can’t be on top. The party is supreme. After our fact-finding, we will take notes and go back to Abuja. You are not having representation at the centre because the house is divided,’ Irile said.
‘Let’s work together, remembering that a house divided against itself cannot stand,’ she pleaded.
