The Federal High Court has lost one of its retired judges, Justice Baba Gana Ashigar, who died on 25 July 2026 after a brief illness.
A statement on Tuesday by the Court’s Director of Information, Dr Catherine Oby Christopher, indicated that His Lordship passed away in Maiduguri, Borno State, and has since been laid to rest on 26 July 2026 in accordance with Islamic rites.
Justice Ashigar (Rtd) was said to be a jurist who served with diligence, dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the administration of justice.
‘His substantial contributions to the Bench and the legal profession will be fondly remembered by his colleagues, members of the outer Bar, Court Staff, and all who had the privilege of working with him.
The Chief Judge, John Tsoho, Judges, Management, and Staff of the Federal High Court extended their heartfelt condolences to his immediate family and prayed that Almighty God grants them the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
