Mbachu charges Super Falcons to stay focused at WAFCON 2026

Former Nigeria senior Women’s national team winger, Stella Mbachu has backed the Super Falcons to reclaim the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, urging the team to remain focused and take the tournament one game at a time.

Speaking on The Super Falcons Show, the seven-time WAFCON winner said Nigeria has the quality, experience and winning mentality needed to emerge champions again, but stressed that the players must avoid looking too far ahead.

‘The Super Falcons should take the game as it comes. They shouldn’t be looking too far ahead. Every match is important, and if they approach each one with the right mentality, the results will come,’ Mbachu said.

The former winger noted that Nigeria’s status as Africa’s most successful women’s national team means every opponent will be eager to beat the Super Falcons. She therefore urged the players to respect every opponent while maintaining the confidence that has always defined the team.

Mbachu also praised the balance within the current squad, saying the blend of experienced stars and exciting young talents gives Nigeria a strong chance of lifting the trophy.

She identified unity as a key ingredient for success, calling on the players to continue fighting for one another throughout the tournament.

‘This team has the talent to win the title. They just need to remain united, believe in themselves, and fight for one another. Nigerians should continue to stand behind them because the girls will make the country proud,’ she added.

Mbachu also appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting the team, insisting that the encouragement from home can inspire the players to give their best as they chase another continental crown.
