Temperatures will remain high over the coming days, at least until Wednesday, Meteorological Officer Matthaios Papadakis told the Cyprus News Agency on Saturday.
Asked by the CNA whether there was a possibility that the phenomenon could persist or intensify, Papadakis replied that there was ‘certainly a possibility’ in the coming days, adding that developments would continue to be monitored.
Regarding humidity, Papadakis said that conditions were expected to be particularly difficult in some areas due to the combination of high temperatures and humidity.
‘It is difficult in the coastal areas,’ he said. He further noted that while temperatures in Nicosia could remain at around 40°C, the higher levels of humidity along the coast would also make conditions challenging.
Papadakis recalled that a yellow heatwave warning had been issued for Saturday, with temperatures expected to reach 40°C inland.
Asked whether new temperature records were expected in the coming days, Papadakis said that temperatures would remain ‘around the same levels over the next few days’.
‘It is a similar situation to what we experienced at the beginning of August,’ he said, adding that temperatures were ‘slightly above normal’.
According to Papadakis, the weather will remain mainly clear, with the same conditions expected to persist at least until Wednesday.
